Iv heard from someone that regular candle wax is good for waxing skiis. aparently it does the same job as a ski wax... what do you guys think, anyone tried it?
 
I was watching them wax rentals in the shop at my hill the other day, and they were using little paraffin pellets like the ones you use for cooking. They also had this crazy iron that had two square irons hanging from it so they could do two skis at once.
 
where do you guys find these shops? what happened to normal ski shops that don't helicoil new skis and don't use conventional wax and irons?

well the parafins in the candle would help but there is perfumes and dyes in the candles that dont help at all and will actually hinder. use real ski wax. only thing candles are good for is waxing ledges or rails.
 
ski wax is designed for different conditions. I have cold temp, warm temp, wet conditions, and all around waxes. All of them have different mixtures and ratios of floro (spelling) Im not sure what floro is, but I doubt that normal candels (holy shit I cant spell it) would work that great. When you wake skis or a board, your not putting a layer of wax on the bottom, your boards actually absorbing it into the pores. It works just like skin. So I wouldn't risk it.
 
Well, if your bases are completely dried out, candle wax would be better than nothing at all, but nowhere near as good, or advisable, as just getting some cheap hydrocarbon ski wax.
If you are ever stuck on a mountaintop with dry bases and nothing available besides a candle, then sure, giv'er.
 
no it works, my friend did it a year or two ago when he didn't have any wax and said it worked fine. obviously not as good as a real ski wax but it'll do it.
 
thats pretty fucken dumb why would u put candle wax on your skis? just go and buy some cheap wax atleast dude cmon are people that dumb these days
 
Ski wax is different than candle wax because it is made with different densities. When you wax your skis, you're supposed to let it sit and absorb into the pores, then scrape it ALL off. All wax itself is slow; the only reason for wax is to add moisture or some form of hydrophobic lubrication on your bases.

Candle wax = poop.
 
I would say go for it. As long as you use white, unsented candles. I use grocery store parafin to wax my skis, which is almost identical to your typical white candle. Park skiers (most of the time) don't need super expensive racing waxes.
 
true we dont need expensive wax but dont use candle wax! your skis absorb the materials in the wax all a candle has in it is a scent. if that

Don't underestimate the power of wax. You may not want to run cera f everyday, but the better your bases slide, the more energy you will have for whatever feature you are trying to hit. A good wax job is especially niffty in the pipe, just ask any pro rider. Jon Olson used to use our shop when he came here for x games. We did some righteous wax jobs on his skis and he was blown away. I am a wax freak. I waxed my Recurves 5 times before I even mounted the bindings.
 
dont do it. i work in a ski shop and i cant even guess how many times someone has come bitching to be that their skis are fucked. every time its from candle wax.
1. its harder than normal ski wax, and will not soak into the base2. if you heat it even a bit too much it can cause the base to literally peel off its core3. its next to impossible to get off if you use too much
just buy normal ski wax bro
