i prefer a hot wax, cause it lasts longer than rub-on's. personally the brands aren't a big issue as long as the final two layers are flourinated.

Toko, I find that it goes on smoother then any other wax.

Personally, I use toko and swix.

Not only are they good waxes, but they are probably the most common waxes as well.
