ski vs. skate videos

i noticed today something interesting, if anyone skateboards, they know that a good skateboarding flick can be good forever, such as girl skate movies such as mouse (around 95') but in ski videos, this may be a good thing, every year people get the new videos to see the progression, while the progression in

skateboarding is slower, which is why you can watch old stuff and be like, 'wow, thats still sick', and if you popped in propaganda or the game, you would be immediatly aware of the differences in the level of riding.....something to think about...why do you think this is true?

 
i would add that i'm not sure if we have that video yet but we will i'm sure. mouse had mystical shit. plehouse has the best chance to bring this to us in my opinion.

we'll see.

depends what skate movie you watch. the progression is different in every skate movie. but your still right. ski moves progress huge in every one

skating movies beat skiing any day imo, but since i dont skate skiing movies are obviously more interesting.

 
ive noticed that the music in ski movies has gotten alot better, no more rap rock POD shit or like power rock or static x shit, more smooth shit, i must say MX videos like crustys have bad music

hell yeah. skiing videos are starting to become better overall. yet older skateboard videos seem a lot more original, they were working with lower budgets, and had much more crazy shit. i was pleased with seth morrison's part in focused, good quality part with a good m.m. song. yet comparing it to something like the old toy machine video sections, it lacks a lot. shit. i think im going to go watch some skate vids.

I think his point is that freestyle skiing and more of a hardcore ski scene hasnt existed for more than 8 years...Therefore skateboarding has reached a height in progression sure new tricks still happen but at a slower pace..Freestyle skiing is relatively new to the Xtreme scenne so it is progressing at a faster rate to catch up but it will peak eventually.

heath kirchart in Sight Unseen was amazing. i still cant figure out how he can do such things with that style. the ski videos seem to have a bit more time put into the editing than skate vids with the exception of maybe Yeah Right! taht had some amazing editing and Owen Wilson was awesome!

I don't think ski flicks and skate flicks are really compareable. Personally, i think that skating is more fast paced, with short clips of tricks all slapped together, so it doesn't really 'flow' like a ski viddy. Anyway, i think that skate films are awesome, and it is because skating has been around much longer than freestyle skiing, no doubt. I would actually like to see ski films going in the direction of snowboard movies though, cuz snowboard movies blow my mind. I think that ski movies will get there soon, but snowboard flicks are made up of all HUGE backcountry booters, and gnarly handrails, and a little bit of park, but only big kickers at photoshoots and stuff. The quality of cinematography in snowboard movies is so beautiful, and the editing is just insane, and that's what makes me think snowboard movies are the best films around. At this point, i think skate, snowboard, and ski movies are all so different, but they're all different sports so they are gonna be way different movies, and i think that is cool. Overall fave movies

skiings soooo fucking old. downhill recreation skiing has been around for fucking ages. way over 50 years. fags with mustaches have been doing backflips and spins since at least the 70s. just because skiers are rotating off axis as of ten years ago doesnt make our sport ten years old. skiing is fucking ancient.

 
I agree 100%, I have the movie 'Unknown' that has boyd, kristi, and steele, and they are terrible compared to todays standards, they are doing 10s without grabs, falling off flat rails and in general just a lack of steez, progrsssion in skiing is insane

 
i think thats just a testament of just got much skiing is progressing. Watch a movie from 2 seasons back and its amazingly how good skiers have gotten in such a short period of time. Snowboarding has been around for 20 years, and in 1/5 or less of that time, skiers have gotten to their level in pipes and parks...really sick

mosaic is sick for edtiging and riding, and riding in pj ladd is amazing but royalty is still the best ski movie ever created......
