Im planning on making a ski video this year

i asking your opions of what a good video camera

im looking for

Clear Resloution - no youtube quality crap

Under $700

size and featres are not an issue

and it has to be

uplodable so

no flash drive
 
its not hi8 (which is outdated anyway) or dvd (which is harder to edit) its mini DV, which is basically the standard...its sick

DVD - the video footage is recorded directly to a dvd that you place into your cd drive and put the footage on to your computer (i believe thats right)

Mini DV - the video footage is recorded directly to a "mini" video tape and you use usb/firewire to upload the footage from the film to your computer
 
the process of taking the footy from DVD and putting it onto the computer is somehow harder, i cant remember why, it might take more technology, but with the MiniDV tapes, you just plug in the camera, capture it, and you're done...do that, its kind of the standard nowadays
 
Like he said definately buy it from a legit site. I tried to go through bestpricecameras.com (dont even go there and get tempted by the prices), they are incredibly shady and theres a lot of sites like this too. They advertise an insanely low price and when you order they have you call them to confirm and then they notify you that a battery doesnt come with it even though it is packaged in the box and they want to charge you like $100 for the battery when you can get them on ebay for less than $20. Then they try to get you to buy tapes and warrantys and other crap and are very rude about everything. If you arent sure if the sites legit, just search it into google with the word review so you wont make the same mistake I did.
 
At the verry minimum you are going to need manual exposure, no matter what quality you get, auto exposure does not work well with snow. also you will want 3chip if you want to have good quality video. dvd cams are for soccor moms and tourists stay away. manual focus is also a nice thing to have. I suggest one of the cheap pani 3chips you wont blow the bank but you will also get something nice. or you just paypal the money to me so I can get a helmet cam.
 
you are talking about sites a lot on here...i've heard that adorama.com is legit (thank you Jwenz) and I've dealt with bhphotovideo.com and they're great, really smooth, so either of those is a possiblity. the gs500 is about $700 on bh
 
Yes, it is a very good camera for the price. Around $350 online is how much they should go for, so if you can pick one up for that or cheaper its good.
 
Not a problem, make sure you buy from a legit site if you do. Stay away from any of those $199 deals listed at the top of the google search results.

You can also search around for video samples..i was interested in buying this camera a while back, and i've seen some really great videos. Here is a sample from Youtube(which usually makes all videos look like shit) and it proves that even being compressed n stuff it looks good.

ya would i be any good for filming skiing (follow cam and sttuff)

is B&H any good they have it for like $360 or something?

However, this camera would be fine for filming, plus it has quite a bit of manual options and a 3ccd so you can adjust it depending on how bright the sun is going to be reflecting off the snow.

Also B&H is VERY recommended, and i have always heard alot of good things. I know alot of people that always buy their DSLR stuff from them. Their prices are very fair, but if you are worried about price you should definatly buy off ebay. But yes, i also recommend b&h
