Could you tell me the best way to tune your skis at home or a web site that could i just got an waxing iron for christmas and i would like to do it. I have an idea but and tips would help thank you. and nothing that will fuck up anyones skis

 
hey dude i started tunin too. simply buy a sharpener if you want to (not necessary). when you wax, clean the bases so that u dont wax any old shit into the base. then gently touch the wax to the iron so that it drips onto the base. do this the length of the ski. iron it in evenly w/ out leaving the iron on the base for a while otherwise u can scorch it. let them dry for about 25 min. then scrape the excess away w/ some scraper. lastly you're goin to want a firm nylon brush to polish the wax. scrub the base w/ this brush to buff it in even farther into the base. your ski will become much shinier and smoother from the time u scraped it. those are the basics. i'd suggest gettin a vise to hook up to ur table. they cost a bit of $, but they're worth it. good luck. oh and what kind of iron did u get?

Ya man, like he said^^, but if u dont wana spend all that fuckin time, go to a store and get it done for free, some places even do it free.

 
Eh, I wouldn't recommend completely cleaning out your bases each time you wax...wipe off excess shit on the base, but don't go as far as cleaning out the pores of your base. You need to keep a good foundation of wax in your base in order to keep your bases healthy, so to speak, throughout the season.

Thanks how many times a season should i wax i ski every sat and wed. Do i also need to sharpen my edges when i wax??

 
i wax my skis about every 5 times i ski or so which is more than some people but i work in a shop so i just do it when i work which is easy...as far as edges go, i never do mine cause i do a lot of rails and stuff and they will just turn shitty anyways but if you dont do many rails just get a little hand edger/beveler thing and do a pass or two everyother time you wax your skis and they will turn hold edges like no other

 
yeah dude when you brush after youve scraped make sure you use long sweeping strokes from tip to tail. The point of this is to make small grroves in the wax which melted snow will run along and off the base - in a similar way to car tyre treads. If you dont do this the ski will have the effect of a flat object on a smooth wet surface - it'll stick. try it with your scraper on a wet glass table - you'll see what i mean.

i actually sharper a day after a wax cuz i sometimes get wax along my edges

ive used trial and error and id say the best lil tip is to move slow and smoothly

dont really stop or else you'll get areas that have more wax than others

if u wanna do a sick job get base cleaner and clean all the crap off your base then drip some wax on the base...smooth and flattin it to ur base with the iron...let it dry and do it on your other ski...then bring back the other ski strip the wax off with scraper...get a diamond sharpener if u want to sharpen and take the burs outa the edges and then get a angle file and to get the right carving angle on ur edge and do that one ur other skis...oh yah u can also to the sharping b4 lay the wax down

 
So the equipment i need is: wax iron, wax, scraper, base cleaner, tex pad

and anything else i am heading to the city tommorow and i would like to pick everything up

 
you can order entire kits off the internet from burton or da kine to name a couple. i got one that included everything (except the iron) plus files, a guide, three stones, sandpaper, scouring pad, and file brush for $50

thanks but i am looking to buy stuff for a store i cant order stuff off the internet so i just want to know what other tools i will need than the ones i have stated above

 
how do you wax the nose of your skis i have a plastic piece there and i was wonering how to get in there without buring the plastic

 
a basic diamond stone does wonders to a jibbed up ski

use swix wax and swix everything, vices, stones... swix is the best for all of it.. trust me...
