I read something in some free ski magazine. Some guy had a pair of skis stolen so his next new pair he really didn't want to get stolen again. He painted the tops flat black. From a glance, the skis LOOKED like shit but were actually new big mountain skis. He never had a problem with theft again. He was even able to store the skis in the back of his pickup truck during most of the day in the hill's parking lot.

Might be a good idea if people are picking up some new skis. Maybe a few stickers to help the ugly color.

If i wanted my skis to look like shit I'd buy cheap skis from 5 seasons ago. I had thid idea about a ski lock thing, where if the chain was cut you would have this little bepper thing that would go off that you could carry with you.

If you bought skis from 5 seasons ago they would SKI like shit. I don't know about you but I buy skis to ski on them not pose with them.

theres a natural mystic flowing through the air if you listen carefully now you will hear. its the first trumpet calling. might as well be the last. many more will have to suffer many more will have to die dont ask me why. things are not the way they used to be.
 
yea i would just get a lock too..they should work..seperating your skis works sometimes but i know someone who did that and still got his candides stolen

 
Sounds like a good idea, but I would definatly go with a lock. Just seems a lot safer!

i saw something on OLN about that and at some mountain they have cops on snowboards and cameras over the ski racks so if anyone steals skis they can see who. the whole cop thing sounds pointless though.

My hill monitors the racks. but seriously. i got two surefire methods...

Method A) Ski on your skis, don't sit in the lodge all day.

Method B) If you must go inside, just use a lock. Someone isn't gonna fuck around with a lock if there are a shitload of other skis to walk with that aren't locked.

ya, i just baught a ski key, best 10 bucks ive ever spent, all the hill sin quebec hade ski key racks, but its a drag when there are all teken at tremblant.

Here is an idea...bring your skis into the lodge with you. Most every place I have been if someone says something and you just look at them and keep going they are afraid to say anything else. Or put them against a window near where you are sitting,so you can see if anyone messes with them. Also it helps to put something identifiable on them, stickers peel off but not if you use a little epoxy.

You poor bastards, over here in New Zealand ski theft is hardly an issue. Everyone just leaves their skis out on the public racks and I have hardly heard of any problems.

ski key is dumb, my skis can't fit in it with its plate, you should see the amount of skis that are just lying around at races im really suprised that more ski don't go missing,

Here at Nova Scotia where I ride theft really isn't a problem amoung me and my friends because we store all our gear inside the ski shop. However a few boarder friends of mine have had their boards 'borrowed' for an afternoon.

if you get a lock, noone will bother to cut a lock, to obvious and suspicious. if you dont have a lock, the racers and some of my friends i work with put one ski on one rack and the other one 2-3 racks down. kind of a hassle, but so is saving up for new skis

for $10, and 30 seconds of your time every time you stop for lunch, you can save yourself a good $800 or more.

ski locks are more than worth what you pay for them.

what kind of ghetto resort do you guys go to where you have to use ski locks to protect your skis. why would anyone want to steal a pair of twin tips when they could steal a snowboard just as easy?

Ummm...to sell for money?

At sunshine they'd put a sweet set up out on the rack and pay someone to just sit and watch the skis all day. If someone grabbed them they'd arrest the person and charge them with theft.

Also with the gondola, i remember one time when i was working listening to the security and ski patrol trying to catch someone who'd stolen a pair of skis. A liftie at the gondola spotted them and then they made sure the person didn't get off until the bottom, where an RCMP officer was standing right there and cuffed the guy as he stepped out of the gondola.

 
some mountains dont have ski key racks but its a good 10$ idea to get it takes like 2 secs

I use a ski key and a cable lock together. Haven't had em stolen yet. I know people that have had ski keys and cable locks broken into for their equiptment. it sucks.

oh yeah, and my ski key was free, a cop gave it to me. sucka!

I have a cable lock. But it's not some pussy assed wire... It's real cable. The only way to cut it would to carry around some huge ass snippers, whichwould definatly cause some suspicion. Trust me tho, someone isnt gonna fuck with your shit to steal it, unless they know you and just want to be pricks to you, if you ahve a lock. It's way too much hassle for then average thief. if you get your shit stolen WHILE you have a lock on... it was someone who knows you and wants to piss the shit outta you.

The ski key racks do need to be built a little better... With the development of wider skis and riser plates, it's getting harder to fit both skis in the ski key rack. I just lock my poles and one ski in the rack.

i have one of the locks with the cable...it's crazy, ever since myh skis and bag got stolen at mt snow riderfest, locking my stuff up is a great idea when i'm not at waterville...since we have this team room thingy
