I agree you should have core material on there. All my favorite skis have been some combination of hardwoods (maple mostly, but aspen/poplar/oak/poplar have all made their appearances) because of the dampness and stability, but bamboo is fun too (I've also been unimpressed by some bamboo skis, but I'm not sure that's because of the core material)
