Ski Sundown 2013-2014 Season

Next (and final) one is Simsbury Celebrates on the 30th at the Bank of America on Route 10 in Simsbury.

Think it's safe to say they'll start snowmaking on Sunday, which means possibly opening day after thanksgiving.

Well with a high in the mid to upper 20's on sunday and a low of around 10, that's pretty mint snowmaking temps...

Plus I heard it thru da grapevine

I guess we'll know tomorrow night, won't we...

Was doing some stuff at the mountain today, it's no secret, the pond is meh right now, that'll slow things down a bit. Assuming snowmaking starts tomorrow night there is a chance of an opening thanksgiving weekend, however if water becomes an issue it'll obviously take longer pushing opening day to the following weekend (dec 7th). However, if I've learned anything over the years, it's that the ops/snowmakers are crazy and will do whatever it takes to get open as soon as possible, haha.

FYI.....Opening moved to Dec 13th, this was posted to the Sundown facebook page today:

"With unseasonably warm temperatures and rain

in the forecast we have made the decision to postpone opening day by a

week in order to best preserve our large stockpiles of snow (check out

the photo). We will be able to take advantage of cold

temperatures next week to make more snow, and anticipate opening with

14 out of our 15 trails on December 13, with edge-to-edge snow and a

sizable base. We are as anxious as our customers to launch the season.

Friday the 13th will be our lucky day!!"674632.jpeg

Only thing I can think of is because it's around when kids get out of school or it'll allow maximum snowmaking in the morning.

Either way, 3 1/2 ft high, 16 ft long lift tower is done and ready to go. It's actually really burly. Went together fairly quickly for such a large feature. We'd love to get it out opening day...but it really depends on snowmaking. Current plan is to make an A-frame and probably another flat section out of the rest of the towers. This way we can cram features together to make different types of kinks instead of having to pick a DFD or FDF (plus they can be bigger than a 20ft DFD/FDF since that's about all the snowcats can move around).

Any thoughts for opening weekend features? Be realistic and remember that we have to work around snowmaking.

Just wondering if the screw issue with the boxesever ended up getting sorted out? Can't remember if this one had an issue, but the FDF box would be really fun for opening day

FDF box is entirely dependent on snow and what the snowmaking plan is. A lot of the bigger things need more snow and tend to need to wait till after snowmaking slows down because we need to be able to move it at times (and don't always have a cat to do so). Pretty sure that box is good on the screw side of things though, haven't looked at it in while.

Some combo of the cannon, elbow, new double barrel, C rail and some kinda lift tower would be sick for opening day. Don't think they require too much snow (right?). How many rails do you think you'll be able to set up?

We're aiming for 3 or 4 per park, so around 6-8 features total. Cannon requires a decent amount of snow and time (needs a real landing), everything else up there is certainly doable (assuming we have a cat for the lift tower...we don't move those by hand).

Have a nice pre-season type setup to ease into the season. Rail, corrugated, box, etc.......specifically corrugated though

Stinger build is complete, Tom's tomorrow morning. 32 flat, new lift tower urban down, up rail, lift tower flat, close-in to drop down rail, jump.

For those of who you couldn't make it out today, Tom's park: down corrugated, pole jam, c-rail, urban down rail.

Just a heads up, next couple of days will be kinda weird park wise. Lots of snowmaking this week.

Snowmaking > park features...more snow = more and better features.

Fresh snow makes rails sticky, that one was well coated on Sunday morning unfortunately.

Rebuild this week, probably for both parks. Lupe comes on the 22nd, come hang out with him and maybe snag some free stuff.

Haven't drawn up Tom's yet, C-rail might move...but it will most likely remain on Tom's after the rebuild.

Tranny finding on all the snow gun piles was the highlight of my snow day. Kinda bummed Tom's wasn't up to snuff but I understand why. You think it'll be buffed out for next weekend?

We're hoping to have both parks completely rebuilt for this weekend. Stinger build starts tomorrow morning, we'll have a better idea of everything after we see how far along we get tomorrow.

Park update:

Stinger: Big red, New Tower (super fun line), 32 flat, round rail flat, tube flat, jump (15 feet...might get a slight make-over tomorrow...landing needs a touch-up), round rail and side-kink. Some changes tomorrow, maybe...

Tom's: Double Barrel Rail flat urban on, c-rail, pole jam...gonna stay this way till after New Years.

Snow is awesome right now, and we have a ton of it. Pretty stoked.

So this might have been posted on here but I haven't seen it in the threads yet. Basically bar fries are the coolest thing ever. Instead of buying fries at the cafeteria go into the bar and ask for basket fries, same price but you get a huge fuckin basket of fries...

the rebuild after the rain happens tomorrow at 11am

id like to re-set big red and the new lift tower, set 32 up as a flat into a small jump, on the side of that would be the original lift tower set up flat with urban kickers, and the new round bar set up as an urban down. On toms we'll drop 4 rails in if we're able.

snow guns will be going like crazy.

so, we shall see what we get

On Toms, idk about skiers but as a boarder if there is something like right in the entrance of Toms, I can't hit it cause I would have to unbuckle and push in the flats whereas my skier buddy's can hit it. Plus just more corrugated lol, you guys are doing great

Eh. I would love to see a pole jam to corugated spine, something on those lines or maybe just a corugated spine with heading downhill so u could hit as a spine but also slide it. Also maybe the rail you guys used in the rail jams the double barrel shotgun its fairly wide. That would be so sick! and stinger is perfect how it is

havent been in a week so i dont no what either park looks like but some sort of kinked rails are always fun like dfds, a frames and that stuff. So far the parks have been amazing this year
