Ski suggestions

you know, i hate these kinds of threads, but im seeking advice on what kind of ski to get.

i go to college in pennsylvania, and ride park 100% of the time. there is nothing else to do here. park, urban, thats it. there aren't powder days, and there is no terrain that can't be skied switch with your eyes closed.

what i'm saying i guess, is i'm fucking bored with skiing. something that i have loved my entire life i am really not looking forward to. really the only thing i have to look forward to when riding is turning a 270 into a 540, or adding another switch up in a combo of rail tricks. it's getting old. i want a ski that will make skiing fun again, something soft, maybe wide, that i could spend time just fucking around on. i've been considering rockered skis, but think it might be a little much for my 300 foot verticle ice-covered hill.

maybe it will be more fun though? my concern is the ski actually holding up on ice? any suggestions? (and please, telling me to "move out west" isn't a suggestion. i have 3 semesters of school left and plan on doing that immediately after graduation... i just have one more season of hell, and want to try and make it as enjoyable as possible)

right now i'm considering anthems or hellbents - i just want to be able to butter/fuck around when i'm not jibbing.

I say the anthems

I live and the east too and thats what i got

There just isnt a need for the hellbents here in PA

i think hellbents would be too much, but something rockered like reno rockers or maybe even obsethed could definately increase the fun factor.

it sounds like you've kinda reached a plateau for what's possible/fun to do on skis at your local hill so it may be an idea to take up snowboarding. i know that sounds like an extreme measure to tackle boredom and it will suck being a beginner again but at least it's a bit of a change of scene and you'll be able to rediscover the stoke of progressing...

idk, it's just an idea.

hook up some old skis with tele bindings and just play around in your park with those. this will be an extra challenge and open up the sport and you wont have to snowboard

hellbents are sweet, always fun to mess around on. lizzys might be good too, not sure how they do on ice. look at chris benchets skis when they come out next year they'll probably be rockered, not sure though

if i were you i would get hellbents and the butter all day everyday. just mob around and butter on everything

Hellbent's would be so sick. However, you know they are a little much for PA. I would check out some ski's that have same rocker idea, but are a little lighter for everyday riding. The Moment Reno Rocker comes to mind right now, I think it's a 92mm waist.

dont get the hellbents, a rockered ski on rails would be too hard. anthems are nice and soft though and would prolly be fun for you. or you could save the money and do a weekend trip to some snow.

dude, you have no idea. hellbents on rails could be quite possibly the funnest thing to do on skis. i thought the same as you, until i saw josh bibby on hellbents last summer. he could nose/tail press the shit out of them, the steeziest thing i've ever seen

[*]respectfully disagree[/]

ya i agree. but for the guy in question, who cant ski pow and is limited to park, hellbents could be insanely fun to mess around on with butters and such

ive had anthems n their mad fun, but if u want to try something new maybe the reno rockered could be fun

i didnt read through all the posts, so if somebody already said this dont get mad, but id personally get reno rockers because they are fully symmetric, which means good rail ski, they are rockered which means soft for butters and presses, they are moments, which means awesomeness

dont forget the ep pros... slightly lighter than the hellbent... 179 hell bent is the exact same length and underfoot width, only main difference is the eps are softer and slightly lighter and the tip/tail shape/size is slightly different between the two... my eps are amazing everywhere on the mountain (except chop and moguls) but if you're going to ride either of these skis in the park be weary, if you take a fall the wrong way (i.e. directly on your tips or tails) you will crack/break your tips... i personally haven't done it but i have a friend with hellbents that has two cracked tips from a fell he took off a park jump.. also i would recommend with either of these skis that you file down the edges on the rockered parts of the ski, otherwise you will get some gnarly topsheet damage. and dont forget that the edges on the skis are soft... if you try to 2sev on and nail your ski on the rail from the side, you will probably bend your edge..

but i love my ep pros all day (almost) everyday... but i also live in slc, ut and ride brighton like its my job.
