Ski Solo / Buddy System

My ski season generally looks like this:

I wake up at about 5:30 am, throw on my layers, and drive 3 hours to my resort (yes, I drive three hours once a week to go skiing).

I get to Flagstaff, AZ (the town where my resort is), buy sandwich, throw it in the backseat of my car to eat later, and go up to the mountain.

I ski trees and groomers the whole day (with a break to eat the aforementioned sandwich) and then drive 3 hours back home.

I do this every Friday from December through March. And its great. I go completely alone, I don't ski with anyone, I don't talk to anyone (except on the lift), I do exactly what I want to do for the entire day, by myself. I wouldn't want it any other way.

Do you guys ski alone and experience the self-indulging lifestyle as I do, or do you ski with the homies? To each his own, but I love skiing by myself.

to each his own but i much prefer to ski with friends because they push me to try things i wouldnt on my own as well as its just nice to have someone to talk to

Homies! Just getting in the zone every once in a while is alright but after a few hours I get tired of just laps with my music. Having a couple of buddies makes the wait on the lift go faster, and they're there to do crazy and dumb stuff with. The best days out skiing are the ones where you make memories with a close friend or two. And they're there to see whatever crazy shit you do so you don't have to claim it.

I guess I never really thought about it until now, but I think the reason I ski alone is because I'm kind of one-of-a-kind where I ski. I live in the Phoenix metropolitan area, and I only know one other person my age who skis at the level that I do. I guess if I knew more people my age who skied, I would go with them. But people I know who make the long trek to Flagstaff are all snowboarders, and they sure as hell don't leave the park.

Then go with them man. I'm sure if you get to know them then they're more than likely cool dudes who are in the same situation you are and just wanna get out to ride. If they're big park guys, then they'll be able to push you and still be able to get you stoked on shredding like other skiers would too. It's not like snowboarders have a hard time differentiating between what is and isn't a more difficult trick on skis, sometimes they just don't know what the names and terms are.

Plus, you can save gas by car-pooling and make some further connections in your friend circle.

Yeah I love skiing alone, I can just go as fast as I like/do what I like and don't have to worry about anybody whinging or bitching - it's awesome.

what i personally hate is when you're skiing with friends and throughout the day it grows into a giant crew of ppl. It takes 25 minutes to take 1 run and everyone would rather socialize rather than just lap. FFS i'm there to ski, so i usually just ski off.

Usually i'm skiing alone, but when i'm with ppl it's usually 3-4 people max so laps are nice'n quick. I hate standing around and shit. A lot of it depends on your mood too.

It's not too fun when you land a new trick and no one sees it because then people think you just be claiming. So I usually like skiing with one person..less lonely. Skiing by yourself is nice too tho, then you can be peaceful

I guess it depends on what I'm doing, if I'm skiing park I'd rather be with some friends, but if I'm out west cruising/pow day just a small group of people and make sure it's a group of people that are all on the same level and have the same mindset/goal for the day

Depends, sometimes I just want to ski alone and not wait on anyone. Laps on laps. Other times I enjoy the social aspects of being with your buddies and skiing, so I do both.

I dunno, buddy system has saved my life so can't complain about it much. Mobbing with 3 or 4 people is also just fun. We encourage each other to do new tricks and try things we otherwise wouldn't. Plus you have people to back up your claims.

I like both personally. I ride alone to blow off steam and just have me time but regardless I always have a good time. It's nice to go do clown shit on skis with friends

My family goes to new hampshire every couple weeks and i just lap the park by myself all day. Pretty Relaxing but it is fun when i take trips with my friends and push eachother and progress

This is the worst. Especially because everyone from my school other than me and my best friend are complete gapers. I don't mind lapping with other friends but we're not waiting at the bottom for longer than a minute

Skiing with my friends is awesome. It's like 7 or 8 kids and we just go mobbing through the park and occasionally through trees and all that

Seems so genuine, I admire it. A real passion and following it. I'd like to think I have the same love for skiing but I'd always prefer to be skiing with my crew. The more personality and laughs just add another element to the fun

I like to go with friends because cracking jokes and pushing each other is more fun than listening to the same playlist over and over

Well, I'm not a park skier AT ALL. This is probably another reason why I dont like going with people- its hard to find people that ski at my level and in the terrain I like. I stay in the trees most of the day, and I'm one of the better tree skiers at my resort, but most people I know either snowplow down greens or they are good but they stay in the park.

A mix.

Like if its puking down or im hiking i like to be with buddies.

but if the snow is pretty average.. I love shredding on my own with music on just forgetting about everything.
