Ski Size

I'm getting Rossignol Scratch skis and I'm wondering whether or not i should get 167s or 174s. I'm 5 foot 8 and 130lbs. I ski in new york so usually on icy snow if that matters for size.

alright, I've just never had skis that are the same size as me, so i didn't know if they would be too big

Whenever I get this question in the shop I have the what kind of skier are you / how aggro / etc talk.

I will say this, if you ski real aggressively and want to charge with stability at speed go with a ski your size. If you are looking for something park specific, more specifically rail specific a shorter ski CAN make certain tricks (like switch ups) a bit easier. I personally don't find this to be the case. I ride in the 170-75 range for an all mountain ski and I am 5'8".

168 would be real squirrly for me at speed, and just overall not confidence boosting when maching into shit.

Seriously think about getting a longer ski it can help you progress.

Really? you notice a huge difference between 2-7cm? And I've always wondered how in terms of physics a longer ski is more stable, it'll be more shaky at the end than a shorter one, so what's the reason?

2 cm cant feel a thing. 5-7 cm I can def feel a difference.

depending on side cut and especially with all these multi-radius side cut skis that are out there the longer the ski the longer the turn radius so when mach twelving on edge the longer turn radius ski has more effective edge in the ground giving you more area to pressure against. Having more edge in the ground makes for a longer turn which at speed is something I want to make. As with vibration I don't know the physics but when I ski on something 170 or shorter the ski feels like it wants to make shorter turns than I want to make and thats what I mean by squirrely. Also vibration is more a flex issue than a length issue. I've ridden 190 skis that are stiffer than shit with absolutely no vibration / wobbles / flapping. And 186 (hellbents) that at butty speeds wobbled / vibrated / flapped.

thats my take.
