Ski shops in my area suck ass

so i am gonna rant. but any usefull/ funny advice is appreciated. So i live in the bay area and i need to get some skis remounted. so i call up a bunch of "ski shops". FYI the only "ski shops" in the area are Any Mountain and REI and The Sports Authority. the CHEAPEST fucking price was 60 fucking dollars for a remount!!!!! holy shit, i mean come on thats rediculous. arenet most shops like 30-40 dollars for a remount. so if any one knows any good/cheap shops near Palo Alto, CA or Pullman, WA please help me out.

Generally $35 from my local store, they'll usually throw in a good wax and plug the old holes for free.

im with ya their. my ski shop pretty much takes the price they should charge, and then puts another 20 on that.

holy shit thats absolutely rediculous. and the worst part is i can't bribe the shop people cause there like 40 years old and gapers. but whatev i guess i'll just have to try and throw them some beer or weed and see if they bite.

that's absurd! i would never ever ever ever EVER buy anything from that shop. i'd rather mess up old pairs of skis learning how to mount skis then pay 100 to get skis mounted.

there are a few ways to look at that though..and i agree it's excessive and I wouldn't pay it either.

The internet has blown a hole in the sustainability of physical ski store profits, anything can be bought online at a cheaper cost so the only areas where value can be added, or where a store can still remain competitive against the internet is with tech work and knowledge/expertise

For that reason the bosses like to think that all staff in the store have more knowledge on product than out competitors and we can leverage that to service customers.

As for costs, well if products are purchased in store, then definitely the costs are reasonable, however if someone wants to get a boot online and come in to 'make it fit', or buy skis and bindings online at a price we can't compete with and then expect a cheap mount then it's not profitable for the owners..

So yeah, there are 2 ways to look at it, but as of last year for tech work that is performed on items bought externally, then the customer can pay a premium.

yep that's the paramount reason as to why shit is getting so expensive. my shop is the same way. mounting and binding adjustments are on the house if you buy the shit from us but a walk-in mount is $55. i can't express how shitty it feels to work with someone on a full setup (boot fitting, skis, etc...) for them to be like "um can you write all this down so i can go find it online?" people who do that and come back expecting a free or next to free mount can kiss my ass. i'm reasonable and if some kids come in with old beat down twintips they scored from their neighbor i'll usually hook them up with a mount but all you assholes who buy from twintip nation or getboards or any of that shit and want to bitch about the mounting fees can suck it.
