Ski shop mounted one of my skis backwards... advice?

Just got back from the shop, long story short I ended up talking to a guy named 'Rich' who was either the manager or head tech. He recognized that it was completely their fault, didn't try to argue that at all. Immediately sent a tech to go fix it, and asked me to wait around while they remounted.

After they were done he personally brought the skis back to me, said that they were really busy right now and asked if he could call tomorrow in regards to 'making it right'. Asked specifics about the skis, where he could find information on them etc so I gave him a sheet I printed out with the name and price clearly labelled on it.

My guess is he's going to look up the specs and try to match it with a pair they have in stock. If that's the case I guess I'll go for chronic's, they seem to be closest to the MR's, 4mm skinnier at the tip and tails is all (and looks like North-east isn't going to have any powder this year anyway)

The real question is do you feel rembursed.

are they going to buy you new skis.? and if they do are you gonna take them some where esle to mount them

what is gonna happen with the old pair? not saying i want them just wondering

I understand it was a stupid accident, I've fucked up at a job before too. The fact of the matter is that I no longer feel comfortable going out and hucking anything big on a pair of skis with 7 extra holes drilled in the front.

I'll feel reimbursed if they either refund the cost of the ski or give me a new pair of similar skis (so long as I get my choice and they're not all a year old ). If I do end up getting new skis out of this then I will def be getting them mounted elsewhere.

I'm not sure with the 'old'/damage pair. I might leave them as-is and use them as my teaching skis , but that would require me to get new bindings to throw on the new pair. If they reimburse me for the skis I'll probably order an identical pair and remove the bindings from the one ski they mounted backwards and put it on the corresponding new ski. From there I'll either make a shot ski out of the fucked up one and hold on to the untouched new one as a replacement (think atomic triplets) or I might donate the messed up ski along with the undrilled replacement

sounds like they remounted them for him right away cause he needs skis to instruct and they're gonna be in touch about getting him new skis. super legit way to handle it, reading comprehension on newschoolers is not so legit apparently

Don't let these guys wiggle their way out of a serious mistake they made. Don't give them an inch. Even though they took your skis info, I can just see them trying to give you a shitty 40 dollar store credit or something, all the while acting like they are bending over backwards for you.

I'm glad he owned up to his mistake and seems genuine about getting you some new skis. That goes a long way. It was probably a kid in training mounting skis for the first time. Just don't want to see you get taken advantage of, because i see ppl being taken advantage of all the time in my line of work.

If you're a bumbling fucking idiot working for a ski shop and fuck someone's new equipment up, then the shop should have the integrity to do the right thing. If not, then that's just shady practice.

A similar thing happened to my MR's, but I didn't catch it until it was too late. (RIP MR's, you were great to me.)

I took a really hard switch landing (really front seat) and my heelpiece tore out. It was still screwed in but had obviously torn out and there was about 2 cm of room between the binding and the ski.

I took it into my local hill's shop (Super knowledgeable and honest people) and they said they'd take it off and helicoil it. An hour later or so one of the techs came and found me and showed be what he found on my ski.

Underneath my heelpiece were like fucking TEN FREEHANDED HOLES. It looked like someone had taken a drill to it willy nilly and just done work on it. I was fucking pissed. The holes weren't even filled, and that's why my bindings tore out. The water had gotten inside and softened the core and the binding ripped out.

I took them back to the other shop where I had them mounted and THEY WOULDN'T FUCKING OWN UP TO IT. I was extremely polite and they kept saying "No, no, no... we don't do that kind of work here" when it was blatantly obvious that the holes were NOT fresh and were not from the other shop. They offered to remount them for free (which was pretty much an admission of guilt) but they refused to understand that they had ruined my skis and the damage was irreversible.

I was fucking livid and ended up riding soggy MR's for the rest of the season.

FUCK Vertical Drop Ski Shop. NEVER buy anything from them.

The issue is that the bindings were mounted totally in the wrong place. If you mount a binding too far back or too far forward (as was done in this case) the ski is too thin to withstand high impact stress with holes drilled where they aren't supposed to be.

It wouldn't be an issue if they were mounted underfoot, but those skis were ruined.

Yea i know that, but are they really mounted to far forward. It looks like it would be in a reasonable spot. Would be easier to judge if i could see them in person i guess.

the only problem i have evr had with skiis getting mounted was a sports authority. i had them mounted there because i had a card for a $5 mount. So i give them the skis (08 silencers) and said "center mount please" so keep in mind there is a diagram to show where tho mount the ski and at one end it said traditional and on the other it said center. i return a day or 2 later and there mounted in the middle of the diagram which was back 3 so i just forgot about it. yes i know, this story is dope and i should tell it at a party
