Ski Shop Jobs

Well I applied for another job today (I still need cash for my 'investment') at the ski shop down the street today, and they were still setting up for opening next week and there was so much shit that I just wanted to grab and run away with (like a box full of all the new siver shit, a box of oakley goggles and accesories and other shit). anyways, all that aside, people who have worked in ski shops, how'd you like it?

i worked in a bike shop directly across the street from the ski shop for like 3 years, and the whole time I was like staring at it thinking, 'Man I wish I could work at both places...' and stuff so I figured I'd finally do it...

its a pretty chill job I did it for two seasons. One of the shops I worked in was right next to the slopes so my boss would let us take breaks and going skiing on slow days.

high stress levels. didn't pay me for tech work. but overall it was a good experience. its just not as cool as most would think.

i've spent the last 4 winters as a tech and i wouldn't do any other job. i dont know what the dude is talking about when he says its high stress, maybe he's the shop bitch. bad ass deals on skis, free seasons passes and if your good you get the night shifts so you can ski all day

Naw he's right, it can be stressful at times, like shitloads of customers and trying to accomodate... but that's just peak times of the year I've found. Otherwise it's pretty sweet, pro forms, free skiing at local mtns, etc...

its usually super busy for an hour at most in the morning and an hour in the afternoon when people are returning between that time you sit with your dick in your hand and wax skis. Not high stress at all.

God is an American.

Meh, soudns exactly like the bike shop...

But I'm in school all day so I'd only work nights and weekends until like january when I graduate...

Best part of working in ski shop is the sick deal you get on skis.

super fun if you have a chill boss....i worked at one for two years and it was mad fun!

i think it depends on teh shop, i work at a small 'city' shop as opposed to a mountain shop. the xmas rush can be brutal, trying to take care of so many people at once, however, most days, there was a steady flow of people and we could just chill, plus the guys that i work with are cool guys, so that makes it even better...on the other hand, i would not want to work at a shop like ski market for those in the east or gart for those in the west, too big, too many rules, no second chances etc...

i was gonna work at a shop this winter... but it didnt end up working out but how good are the deals u get on skis and soft goods?

ok

^hehe, I love how people actually abide by the rules when it comes to stuff like that...

My cannondale rep yells at me when I tell people how much shit costs wholesale or for me or whatever, but he'll do the same thing like 10 seconds later...

Yeah I like working at a shop. I love tuning skis all winter, getting lots of practice figuring out how to get the skis just the way I like them. And yea the deals are what really makes it worth while, the pay sucks but that makes up for it.

Don't tell the outsiders about pro deals. It's a big secret remember no else knows about it. Haha everyone and their grandmother knows about pro deals. I love how the companies act like it's this big secret that you not suppose to talk about.

oh yeah, ski shops rock to work at. if you wnat to call it work. last winter, i would bring in my own skis and work on tem in the down time. except for the first and last hours of the day, there was a hell of a lot of down time- it was awesome

its not all that easy to land the job, its not like you just walk in and get the job...a lot of people have the same idea as us, they think working at a shop is cool...all im trying to say is you have to be in the right place at the right time

its the best thing ever
