Ski Shop Job Help

So i wanna get a job at my local ski shop but they usually dont hire high school kids (im gonna be a senior). Any suggestions on how I could convince the owner to hire me?
 
well tell him things about how much you know about it (if you do) and how much you know about skis
 
same boat, i went into my local shop yesterday and applied, try to get to know the staff before you apply to so that why their more conferrable with you
 
I got hired my senior year at a shop. wait until your 18, don't go otherwise. then go and fill out an app and check back on it everyonce in a while. also list skills you have related to skiing on your resume. or ask for an appointment with the owner, and try to convince him. I did both... it probably helped that I've known the general manager since I was 6, but yeah. be confident!
 
make sure you have some questions for them about their business. it makes them know you want to learn and youre eager to learn and when training ask lots of questions to clarify. this makes them know you want to learn everything well so you can do well.
 
Well put. We are in the process of hiring new kids at the shop I work at. Me and the boss are looking mainly for someone that is really motivated and has a love for skiing. If you know snowboarding that always a plus. Even if you know only a little, that something managers look at. Also remember that knowing the basics of a ski, turn radius, cap vs sidewall, ect, gives you another edge.

If you are reliable and love skiing, and dont mind what at times can be crappy work, you have a great chance at getting the job.
 
i'm a junior and really would like to work at a shop i know a lot about skis and a fair amount about tuning should i still wait till i'm a senior
 
If you think you have enough knowledge to help customers and can answers questions go for it. I got my job at my shop last summer before I was a junior. The only downside is that you don't get the respect you probably deserve. Older people will probably think you don't know anything and will most likely have an older person help them. The advantage of being younger is that when the teenage crowd comes in you know what will be best. It will depend on who they are looking for and if their willing to teach you. It will never hurt to just go in and ask if they need help or fill out an application.
 
tell them your dad owns ski market and if they don't hire you he will build a ski market next door and put them out of business.
 
Being good with people is FAR more important than anything else. Technical knowledge will come to anyone. I've seen new people hired with zero experience and become valuable team members. Enthusiasm is key.
 
the best thing to do is help them out however you can before even working there though that may be tough. i got my job in at a ski shop in college because I helped them out 2 years in a row very well at the college ski sale. I basically demonstrated to them how much i cared about skiing and their business in making sales- RESEARCH THEIR PRODUCTS, KNOW HOW THEIR BUSINESS WORKS, WHAT THEIR CLIENTELE IS, and any POS system they use. The more you know, the better- they will hire you as a typical sales associate but you wont start out selling too much-prob just ringing people up, straighting clothes, and doing miisc work such as straighting stuff in the back. I started out out with junior rentals like crazy sooo many. Then i gradually starting selling more and more shit and it was fun. Especially when ur sellling 1000 setups and you are hungover as shit. haha
 
know about the lines they carry before u go in. be ready to tell them a good reason why you want the job. know how to boot fit. have respectable grades, then you'll probably get it. i didnt have anyproblem

Kids also need to remember that working at a ski shop doesn't just mean talking to people about rodeos and pretzels, and copping proform pricing - there is a LOT behind the scenes that can be quite boring..it's worth it though if you love the sport.
 
definately true!

in your first shop job you will be fitting more kids than anything else and those saturday mornings when mom and dad bring all the kids in with their old stuff to make sure it still fits will definately make you question why you're working there.
