Ski shop botched my binding mount?

So I just picked up my brand new skis from the shop today where I left them for a binding mount. After I got home, I looked at them more closely and saw what I believe to be evidence that they messed up the mount, there seems to be drilled holes that have been then filled up behind the toe piece (same on both skis):

So am I seeing this right? And then how would you handle that situation? they did not say anything when I picked up the skis...

Any input appreciated.

Edit: in case it makes a difference, bindings are Salomom shifts.

Edit 2: after pulling my tape measurer out, I realized the mount is about - 1cm from what I had requested. Guessing after fucking up mounting where I wanted was no longer an option.

No don't go tell them to fuck off and ask for money haha. Just go in, in a chilled mind set and tell them your not happy with the service and not happy they didn't tell you they clearly messed up on the first attempt they made at mounting them. Tell them you understand mistakes sometimes happen but you now have holes drilled just behind your toe piece on your brand new skis and you would like it resolved and here what they have to say. Chances are they will be professional and handle it for you. Take it from there.

This seems to be a far better approach then mine^

Go in and just ask them whats up, don’t be a dick about it and they’ll likely hook you up with either a new set of skis, or offer you free tunes/ mounts for a year of some

other compensation.

The shop will probably pull up your ticket and figure out which tech did that and then give them a stearn talking too. A lot of shops have a three strike rule with mounts where the tech gets kicked out if he messes up more than three customers skis.

Speaking as a guy that works in a shop. Things happen. It’s super lame the shop didn’t explain the error to you. If you were our client we’d hook you up with new skis. (Luckily for us we would just put the mismounted ski in rental to make up for the error)

but it like people have said. Stay calm. Ask for an explanation and hope the shop aren’t dicks.

Thanks guys. Just to close the loop on this, I went back and the manager came out and offered to hook me up with new skis right away. He was super apologetic and professional, waiting for my new skis now, but so it's all good.

Happy ending!

Except for the guy who fucked up the mount...

haha yeah, my guess is the tech messed up and hoped it wouldnt be noticed instead of addressing the issue. feel a little bad for him but OP shouldn't have to have extra holes in his ski so that's just how it goes

There's a big difference between messing up a ski and messing up a ski and trying to hide it.

I've never heard of a "three strike rule". All that would lead to is a shop that never has an experienced tech.

Yes there is a big difference, especially when is pretty obvious just from looking at the ski.

Im not sure how the three strike rule would lead to an inexperienced tech, a binding mount with the proper jig is pretty damn hard to mess up, if you manage to screw up three times in a season you don’t deserve to be a binding tech and will get demoted to wax scraper or rental slave.

The last shop I worked in had 7 techs who rotated through different roles every night, mounted a shit ton of skis throughout the season, I would guess near 500. And had maybe 3 botched mounts total all season from three different techs. Each time the store bought them a new ski and kept the old one, and each tech got a strike.

I have to get two pairs mounted soon, I hope if they screw it up I can at least see it.

Is there anything I can do to help prevent them from screwing up other than very clearly identifying the spot I want mounted? I guess it's mostly out of my hands then.

This similar thing happened to me a month ago. I wanted -2cm from the line and I got them back +1cm from the line, so I told them I’ll ski on it to see how it feels, and then if I don’t like em that way I’m coming back. Well, after skiing a few days on em, I am taking em back to see what they will do. Hopefully I’m as lucky as you are!
