My sponsors flew me out here (my mom paid for this trip)

Sponsors go crazy, mine pays for two sets of skis and two passes. My main sponsor(Grandma) owns the house in Breck

I'll give you vail, the back bowls are legendary. Telluride is amazing too, but if you offer me a gaurenteed powder day at any resort in the country I'm not picking either over Killington

Your drunk go home.

Yes a true pow day at Killington is unmatched for comparing to other east coast resorts. Shred cascade trees with a foot plus fuck ya thats a good time.( I was born and raised on the east and spent my college years in Killington)

But if we are comparing a foot at Killington with maybe 18 actual cliffs on all 7 peaks(again cascade and devils fiddle) vs a foot on the east wall at A-Basin where the whole fucking face is a cliff you are just objectively wrong.

If you are really picking Killington on a guaranteed pow day over A-Basin, Vail, Copper or Breck your confused.

Love you Zach but if you want to spend your powder days hiking up east wall go for it but I'd probably just stick to the glades off of beavers or rollercoaster. I don't think I've ever hit east wall and it been shitty, I don't know how much a powder day is really gonna change it either but you probably know that wall way better than me.

Also I said I like dense glades for pow days and east wall is literally above the tree line lol. Coppers back bowls is more or less the same thing. If you know some spots that you think rival anything at killy/ Whiteface in terms of just long steep dense trees then lmk, but so far the best I've found is some stuff at steamboat and it lacks the steep factor so idk. I'll come back to this thread and admit I'm wrong if you gimme some recs for this season (on ikon) and they live up to the hype!

Also cliffs are fun but if you're like me and only have 3 tricks you'd throw off them they get old fast lol

It sounds like you had a stormless Colorado trip without a local and had a bad experience, the east has some great days and some decent terrain. Colorado during Feb and March blows the east out of the water

Fair enough, if you love tree skiing then yes A-Basin is good but not the best. If you want silly thick trees that only east coast folks will like try skiers right off of resolution lift line at copper. Or any of the alleys/trees on pali at A-Basin they are thick and steep and rival any tree skiing on the east.

I've heard mad river is insane and same with smuggs. Another honorable mention gotta be Magic mountain, idk if they're still in business but that resort was so fun

They are moving it back to the original run where the XL features used to be

They are already using all the space they can in parklane. Where tf they gonna put more xl features. Also there is no “original run” for park lane, it’s been the same run almost the same setup for like 20 years.

They had the huge Freestyle on Freeway, my bad. I haven’t gone park in Breck in a while just hyped if they rebuild it better. Park lane has always had a normal Large park. Freeway was where the 80 foot jumps and half pipe was because its a steeper run.

A lot of Northeasterners wax poetic about the north when they leave. It was the exact same shit in Charleston, SC. But they never move back lmao

Only sketchy thing on a MGR pow day is getting down that damn road! (unless your coming from the other way)

There’s not really much alpine in the east.

I was at the chic chocs and mt washington last season. there’s no doubt that there is good stuff in the east. There just isn’t much of it. And not much snow for that matter.

what the west doesn’t have are hard af people that would go out in 80mph winds w/freezing rain to ski the forecasted 0.5” of fresh. And still call it a good time if there wasn’t any fresh.

let’s not open the debate west vs east. There’s really no comparison to be made.

There is no comparison the Midwest is the best skiing

That’s sounds so tedious, I skate when I can and I make like 1 snowball every 2 minutes

Jay and Mad River have the best most playful terrain on the east coast, change my mind.

Mb I thought u were just talking just abt parklane not freeway. Obviously freeway isn’t there anymore.

There’s skiing all over the world. Each with its own flavour.

both chess and checkers are played on the same board.

Yeah it would be so hype if they move it back to freeway

Have you been to black mountain of Maine? I spend most of my time skiing trees and I haven’t been anywhere that is close to as good. Hardwood forest with huge mossy boulders everywhere that turn into jumps in winter. Tons of cliff drops. Top to bottom tree runs. Easy access to backcountry and sidecountry on two different peaks. No lift lines, even when it’s knee deep on a Saturday. I’ve skied jay and it’s the only place that comes close but I’d choose BMoM over it any day.

There is tons of untapped unskied alpine terrain in the east, it’s all just in Newfoundland and Labrador and it’s completely inaccessible

i've heard black mountain is really good and hope to go someday but... have you skied mad river glen? they genuinely do have the best and biggest cliffs in new england and i know this as a fact without having skied black mountain of maine. ill stay reserved about the woods especially considering you claim they're better than jay.

BTW black mountain of maine is the only black mountain now... black mountain in jackson NH is now closed. RIP i skied my first black diamond there

Ruka seems fun! dont die on that thought

Ruka has basically nothing if you don’t primarily ski park. Yeah some off piste but nothing spectacular.

Park is one of the best in Finland but not interesting to me and no pipe nowadays either, so i’ll die on that hill saying i’d take colorado any day over ruka

edit: i’ll add that it’s a really small place also, gets crowded super fast and the slopes are short. but the one long sweeping slope with a high speed chair is nice to just soul ride on a snowboard surf style!

No I actually haven’t, heard very little about it and tbh didn’t get to ski many places in Maine throughout my day. You bring up a very valid argument, sounds super sick.

Apparently one of the fifty project climbs are in the torngats/ up there somewhere.

it’ll be interesting to see some one actually skiing and documenting it.
