Ski Roundtop

I ski at Roundtop mainly. Live in Hbg. so it's not far away. Yeah to the crappy east coast ;) Alltho seriously Roundtop's snowmaking staff is pretty nice, and I'm stoked about the superpipe.

Me me! Right now they surely arent getting alot of people... this rain isnt doing anything for them.

-Michelle

Me too. I really hope they blow alot tonight... because my school's ski club starts tomorrow... and it wont be SKI club if there is no snow.

->'this speaker here.... it's broken, but THIS one, this one's good, it's really good, and these wires, they are good too!'

Yeh... Our ski club started today, but I had too much work, damn term paper... And yeah I hope this week they'll be able to blow more snow and get the park and pipe nice and open.

our ski club is just a group of skiers/boarders/snowbladers who like to ski, or want to learn, and they just go up every wed after school and ski ski ski. It's not a team or anything. I am not in it... but I go up the same nights and just meet friends up there. Which is good because then i dont have to take a lesson.

Yeah ours is just a club, I'm only in it so that I can get the night club card deal thing through the school. Otherwise I might happen to go up there at the same time as them to see friends and such. Hey, you guys ever thought about trying to round up some freeskiers around here and all meet out there and have some fun? None of my skiing friends r really into freeskiing, so I always end up hanging out with the snowboarders, kinda sux tho.

i was just on the sight and they started to blow snow on GB i hope they make a really big headwall on GB so people can jump off it this year. It was like that last year untill some damn parent complained cause their kid was jumping off of it. damn parents

Yeah that headwall was awesome. It got rutty and impossible to ski in late March when things started melting, but before that i was in love :) On a kinda related note, are either of you really good? I'm only marginal, and I really have problems finding people to ski with that are better than me or are interested in freeskiing that can help me with shit.

Sketchy looking straight rails, up to 360 rotation on a decently shaped kicker or tabletop, and add some basic grabs like safety, stalefish, japan, mute, tail. Lately I've been messing with nose and tail manuals and can almost get a 180 tail butter, its hard though. My halfpipe skills are what's most limited, I can hardly een get decent air in the pipe for some reason. How about you?

I went up last week. The snowmaking was so nice. It was all fun and powdery. But the park hadnt opened yet... and gun wasnt near ready.

From the minuteman lift... it looks like that trap rail is all curvy...did anyone notice that? it looks really impossible... have you guys/gals tried it?

Just if either of you are interested: I'll be at Roundtop Saturday prolly about 4 till whenever, and Whietail I'm hoping Monday about the same time. If you see me about, I wear a gray jacket with green trim, gray pants with some blue trim, a silvery helmet and yellow goggles. I ride on the blue Scratches. Feel free to holla at me!

I went up last night (thursday). I tried the rail like to the very left once you enter the park. The shorter, straight, flat one. I wasnt used to those type of rails. I had never done anything that wasn't pvc (like in my yard rails). It was sooo slippery, and i only did it three times all of which i leaned way far back and fell back hard on the rail, and then flew off into the ice. GRR! i was so frusterated. Not to mention now i have a hugely bruised left leg from where i wrecked myself.

I also learned the pipe for the first time. I wasn't good at all, but at least i didnt fall.

Heh, yeah I had a big bruise on my hip for a week or two from that one yur talking about. And yes those are SO different than PVC. I don't have any backyard rails unfortunately, but last year when they had that low pvc one I learned to slide rails on that and then got on the metal this year and its a totally different feeling.

The pipe too is an isue with me for some reason. I can air pretty big off of jumps, but in the pipe I really can't seem to. It's weird.

I mastered the 30-40?? foot rail the other day. i tried the double kink and had it a few times.. then fell on my face. I need to work on that. havent tried the tranny rail yet.

last i was up, they were grooming on it. Upper wasnt open, but it was definitely near done. Then again i haven't been up in a week and couple days, so i don't know.

I was up wednesday and gunbarrwel was pretty nice. It's been staying pretty packed-powdery and not turning to ice. It isn't a vertical headwall like last year, but its pretty steep still, some fun little lines and a spine in the center that's fun to jump from. The other day some kid jumped straight off of the drop on the left side, all I saw from the lift is him disappear over the edge with the ground WAY below him and yell 'oh shit...' :)

i was up last night friday and today saterday it was sick yeah it wasent like last year but it was still fun alot of people dident do it thought they just sat at the top was mad cause snowboarders would like go sidways and it pushed alot of snow down the hill and that sucked cause it was like a big mogul in the middle of the trail

^were you in the comp they had this morning?

I went Saturday and there was still some pwdery stuff left from the morning, and most of the mountain was moguls, Susquehanna had all these jumps, lol. That was fun, blowing past beginners throwing down grabs and shit. They chopped off the steepest part on the left of gunbarrel tho. :( Not sure what the hell they did to it, but the headwall type thing was all knocked off. Superpipe Monday supposedly, keep your fingers crossed...

i went up sunday for like 4 hours from 1-4 all i have been doing lately is jumping gunbarrel also on barrets trail me and my friend were jumping of the rock good fun it still.

What rock are you talking about? I know on the right side of the trail near the beginning theres this thing thats a log or an old bench (it's hard to see what it really is under the snow) that I always leap from. I dunno what rock yur talking about tho.

ya know the sharp turn near the end of the trail well all the way to the right their is a snow covered rock and you can drop like 1 foot to maby 3 feet off the rock

yeah the rock is towards the end when you come to that big sharp turn... it's exactly to the right of it.

Gunbarrel was ill on friday and sunday night. Very steep if you take the skiers left route. Hardly any ice on sunday and great snow on friday. Ram had TONS of powder on friday night with huge moguls.

Superpipe opened today (Tuesday 1-27) and it's enormous. Roundtop has been awesome so far this year.

Yeah, I was volunteering for the Special Olympics, so I got out of school. :) But I got pretty much after lunch to ski, so by the time anybody else got out there after school i had a good 4 hrs in, hehe...

Anyway, the superpipe is nice, so incredibly steep, its great. I don't kow when the terrain park got rearranged, but it's different since last time I went. They added a trapezoid box thing in the cunter kinda where the weird massive battleship rail used to be, and some of the other rails are moved around.

The cool thing though: I saw them pushing snow around on fife and drum earier in the day, by the time i left they had shaped what looks like a 20ft possibly tabletop, a smaller tabletop, some various kickers, the massive curved battleship type rail that used to be in the park, and had a couple flat rails in. There were some orange marks on the snow that looked like more rails, and one of the park staff said something about a rollercoaster rail. ^ Just the update on what looks like to be the second park, and a more spread out and bigger one. It encompased all of fife pretty much. Can't wait to hit it.

yeah i was their last night to i saw they were doing something but couldent tell cause i never went over to the right side of the mountain. On the new box some fag with rental skis tried to use it as a ramp and fell the back of his head hit the box

thats y people with rental skis and boards should not be in the park

Amen to the ban on rentals. Plus so many people just ski through like its some sort of family fun park... There needs to be a small gap jump to get into every park and pipe, not big enough to keep out serious beginners in freestyle, but enough to keep little kids, families, and anyone on pencil skis out. heh

i went today and that new park was awsome the only prob was that they dident shut the hill down just for the park so the beginers used that lift to and the wait was real long i like the new box to

Yeah, when I went Sunday I just used the Minuteman lift and got some practice on the Lafyette moguls. They need to have a minimum speed limit in the park or something. I was trying to keep my speed up throughout the whole run because I wanted to hit the kickers with alot of speed, but these fucking little kids kept cutting me off because they were going so slow off the jumps.

u were thei sunday what time i prob saw u their i want to go today but it is raining outside

roundtop will get icy now and that sucks

I was there from about 4 till 8 I guess on Sunday. And yeah this rain bites the big one. Barely Februrary and raining, stupid shit. I was planning on going today too. FYI for anyone interested, though: Some people from my school and I are planning on going out Friday directly after school and hitting up the park and pipe with some video between the cameras we have. Not like any of us are all that good, but some of it's worth filming, plus it's a good time to have a film session, heh.
