Ski Resort w the worst/longest lift line is....

btw. saw some poor kid get ambulanced away last night at Keystone after he rag-dolled down the last face. Kid going way too fast for his ability level, hits a rut of sort and got tossed. Mom was screaming madly.
 
pretty much any popular vacation spot out west on a powder day during a vacation week. I experienced it last year when it was my first year out west for the winter and it was awful, this year and for future years i plan a backcountry touring trip with some friends and get away from all the stupid crowds.
 
yup i was there too. wind closed everything. longest lines iv ever been in, longer than vail and whistler on holiday weekends. plus it was a 2 hr wait for the snowcat
 
sugarloaf has some serious issues with lifts, there aren't enough people to completely redo the lifts but there are enough for 40 minute waits
 
Na it's a slow-ass double, but people were still missing chairs and riding by themselves on that day. You can just make out the end of the line in the shot, the top of the run is maybe 200-300 metres above that.
 
That's ridiculous. It's not even a run next to that chair, its so short and flat. The run would be so busy, and it looks like the line almost goes back to the top of the chair!

If that was the only lift in Niseko open, you'd hike somewhere, or if conditions were that bad, hit the onsen, or some bars!

i dont even understand how people who only moderatly like skiing could go through that just to go down some groomers.
 
Well they (Ischgl, fyi) have two gondolas and one 3S-gondola going up from the valley, so the line actually takes about 10 minutes only. But it sure as hell is not a place for claustrophobics. :D
 
i was there. that was when they didnt open due to winds until like 10am. i sat in the FRONT of that like for like 2 hours.
 
True statement. Weekend crowds are stupidly large. That, and since some people always end up riding without a full chair cause of some mid lift line nonsense when it's crowded.
 
On the wrong day at Squaw you can wait upwards of an hour. KT-22 can be more... And if you want first, second, or 20th chair on a pow day, plan on getting to KT at least 3-4 hours before the chair spins.
 
Perisher in australia. worst day ever was raining and windy on school holidays and i was the lifty pulling the t bars for everyone. it takes about 10 seconds litrally to get down this run as well. the line was huge
 
The cable cars in Europe, during school holidays. Had a 90-minute wait once at Oberstdorf.

Compared to the U.S., people are used to less 'personal' space, so you really get crammed in like sardines, even while waiting in line. Queuing also doesn't work, you just push your way to the front. It's one thing to be said for the lifties trying to organize the lines at U.S. resorts.

 
Lets get something straight kiddies....from living in Breck for the last 4 years you will learn to realize that the best ski areas to live in also will have the longest lift lines. If you let that get to you, then you might as well quit skiing. Squaw, Breck, early season Abay, Whistler, Vail, etc.....all great places to post up your life to shred, but understand when it comes down to skiing people will be there. If you complain that much about em, then just get a beacon, probe, shovel, pack, take a course and stay out in the bc. I will still continue to ski breck everyday.
 
Seriously! We have to wait in shitty lines AND ride shitty hills.

I wish I could trade places with one of these kids so they can realize 30 minute line is worth the wait when the run actually lasts more than a couple of turns.

 
I ski at Revelstoke and the longest I've had to wait all season (apart from the bottom gondola on a pow day) is 3 minutes, and that was on the really busy days. It's pretty sweet. During the week, you never have to wait in line for a chair. This will probably change once the resort gets more exposure and people decide it's worth the trek though.
 
uh no?! come to utah and ski alta/brighton/solitude/snowbasin/canyons and tell me there are long lines at all good mountains
 
Is that for the high speed quad? I was there from last sunday-tuesday and there were no lines at all, pretty much got right on the lift every time.
 
I feel sorry for you. first for thinking Breck is the "best ski area" and two thinking that really good lift accessed skiing doesn't exist without lift lines.
 
any idea how many people per hour/day/year? just curious, could be an interesting little bit of info.
 
I actually work for Vail and I have heard that before from our higher ups. they had numbers but I don't have a memory. I would say Breck on average probably has the longest but their lifts are faster than some other places but they are the number one winter vacation destination in the world. With Vail coming in second.
Although Abasin after the big resorts close is a nightmare on the weekends. I usually just hang out and drink on the beach.
