Ski Racks

I was wondering what type/brand of ski racks people have because I just got a car and I'm going to need a rack before the season starts. I was thinking about a Barrecrafter rack because unlike Thule and Yakima, Barrecrafters come all together (you dont need to 1st buy the roof rack and then buy the actual ski rack to fit on the roof rack). Anyone had experience with Barrecrafter racks?

btw my car is a '96 Subaru Legacy if that matters

I have been selling all three brands of racks for many years. The Barrecrafter racks are ok and they are less expensive however, you do get what you pay for. Do you really want your 1000.00-dollar skies flying away? I would say if you want to save some money go with the Yakama they tend to be a little less expensive and are still really good. However, if it is not a purely money issue I would go with the Thule, overall they are just the best racks on the market.

i just put my skis inside my caddy no need for a rack, my 165 troublemakers even fit in my trunk but now i have 181 mojo s so they ride inside

i have an 02 Jetta and i need is (which is prolly gonna be what u need.)

Fit kit - $52.50

Foot pack - $135.00

Load Bars - $50.00

Fairing (not necessary) - $60.00

Flat Top 6 ski carrier - $115.00

Thats $412.50 thats about what its gonna cost u if u get Thule

Its the best i work at a sports shop and i sell Thule alll the time... works by far the best out of anything.

luckily im an employee and just purchased all that stuff on line for $187.35 :-)

I have an outback that came with bars on the roof so I got a Thule rack that cost somewhere around $100.

yea, i dont have that kind of money to spend...but then again I dont want to buy something cheap and lose my skis. I dont know what to do.

if u don't what the fairing its gonna be 60 cheeper but thats just on there to stop the whistle sound and look good

ummm i suppose its possible for you to get a deal too with the whole package.. if you but it in a store but thats retail. total MSRP

i got a yakima system in 1997 and have used it YEARROUND eversince. skis in winter, and bikes in summer. its been on top of my truck for over 150,000 miles. never a problem. if you buy a cheap rack you'll end up regreting it and buy a good one anyway-thus costing you more $$$ in the long run. stick with yakima or thule

for my car i just fold down the back seat and put them inside less of a hassle. But my moms car has 2 sets of thule racks on top for when the whole family goes on a trip. never had a problem with them

Check out the classified ads in your local newspaper or a used sporting goods store. I've scored super-cheap Yakima rack stuff at a one of those places.

If your car has rain gutters, you'll score something really cheap, otherwise you may have to go with some sort of fit kit for Thule and Yakima, thus adding expense.

Get something that locks and the rooftop coffins are, in my opinion, the best because people don't know if there is anything in them and you can carry other luggage, too.
