Ski Racing Culture

its all "the outside looking in"

I can agree with OP. but then again I realize that me and my friends are just as rude and stuck up if not worse than racers. haha think about how much freeskiers fuck with everyone else on the mountain, we are jerks. hahaha

i raced til last year. problem?there are douchebags everywhere. quit generalizing. racing makes you a good skier outside the park... daren rahlves kills the big mountain and he was a world cup racer for the longest time.

there are racers that maybe dont know park shit, but there are park skiers who couldnt arc a turn on bulletproof vermont ice at 50 mph.

so much hostility, lets chill out were all skiers

and you think people like park skiers?? dickhead kids on twip tips who think they are in the wu tang clan? open your mind

yes most racers are better at skiing runs than me. Im better at skiing park than them. its like saying figure skaters are better skaters than hockey players. THEY ARE BOTH GOOD AT THEIR RESPECTIVE SPORTS! I dont ski groomers hence forth I am not a good mountain skier. Why are you racers so hell bent on proving to us that your better than park skiers at something they dont do or care about. I dont claim about how you cant ski park, you dont give a fuck. I dont get why racers hold on to this though and that is why they apear snob and stuck up.

"I am not a good mountain skier"

What kind of good skier are you? Someone who dicks around in the park a little bit? What are you going to do in 10 years when your knees blow out and you can't ride the park at all.

In defense to your ignorant call out....

I literally never wait in a liftline ever. Thanks to "seasonal private lessons" aka hire a chill instructor to ski with us and cut lift lines all day no matter how crowded they get. Therefore not doing anything wrong in the liftline to you.

I love skiing through the park and act pretty respectful.

And im sure you can rip outside the park. It was more of a general statement that so many kids these days are just pathetic outside the park. It will bite them in the ass in the near future when they realize what else is out there

Im good at my own sport, and dont hate on others thing.

what do you do, swing by some little poles drilled into the snow, shaking your hips in a little slalom?

yah I ski park, you ski gates or what ever the fuck you do, have fun doing it, I know I fucking hate doing gates so I wont do those.

when my knee busts out, I will ski the rest of the mountain and looking back I will have been able to ski the park before the inevitable injury's or getting old and having pain.

I like how everyone assumes I am a park skier, putting words into my mouth.

I ski all mountain, I aint no fool. I understand how edges work.

But I digress, racers are rude snobs who think they are the greatest fucking thing the sport has to offer (as I hope this thread has and will continue to prove).

Almost as if they are the aryan race of the skiers, I guarantee that a racer will never initiate a conversation with a non racer on a chairlift, or a lift line.

ima fall for the troll and say that after racing on a provincial team i can say that the whole race culture is pretty damn stuckup and a impossible to deal with.

There is a select group of great people in racing and it seems like it really depends on the team they grew up skiing for (whether it was a posh and prestigious team or not)

most of the best skiiers i know either grew up racing or skiing moguls, it is pretty much necessary to have a formal base to learn how to shred the whole mountain cleanly

You figured it out. They all have swastikas tattooed on our arms and hail to hitler before they take a run. If you aren't in tight enough clothing they will refuse to even talk to you.. it's just the dominate race asserting its dominance over freeskiers.

Whereas all freeskiers dress like thugs, ski around like they have a damn uzi in their pants, and wear Wu-Tang tall-tees past their knees.

Stereotypes are cool buddy, I am sorry you get so offended by people enjoying a different aspect of skiing.

There is no freedom in park! Racer, park rat - both stuck on their artificial playground.

It's like comparing a tennis to a soccer field and claiming that the soccer one offers more freedom.

dude i raced and now freeski, you just sound as snobby as these so called racers do. stfu and stop hating dickhead. you probably dont even know enough racers to make this assumption.

I think the main thing here is that assholes are assholes, regardless of where they ski on the mountain. And if you think park skiers or big mountain skier have less of an attitude than racers, you are greatly mistaken. There are prima donnas and rad people on both sides of the coin.

i would say looking at the general aspects of the sport; most park skiers can go fast and make turns, but not most ski racers can hit jumps and rails.

countering, most racers can hit a jump, most park skiers cant carve a slalom course on a 60* pitch of bulletproof ice.your argument was extremely shallow. why cant we all just get along

but there is also a difference between hitting jumps and actually doing impressive tricks on them too

This just shows that you've never been on/near a real race course before. The Hahnenkamm DH race course in Kitzbühel is closed to the public because people die simply trying to get down it (let alone hit all the jumps at top speed). It's retardedly steep and off camber so if you were to fall you would be unable to stop and consequently get thrown into the woods (which is why it is closed to the general public since this used to happen).

Park skiing is just as difficult as racing, it's just a different aspect of the sport. You cannot make it down the Hahnenkamm and Benni Raich cannot throw dub 1440 over a 120 foot double.

I don't know who's worse, the stereotypical racer douche or the stereotypical 14 year old park rat douche.

T-Hall skied moguls before freeskiing. Like a Lion has absolutely no connection with racing at all.

They are both douche and they both suck....but when it comes down to it. The typical 14 year old park rat vs typical 14 year old ski racer. The 14 year old ski racer can actually ski well all over the mountain including in the park. While the typical 14 year old park rat probably can't ski well anywhere on the mountain, including the park

i think the real problem are the ski racing PARENTS, fucking outrageous. and you thought soccer moms were bad....

+K for deliberately being a cunt and stirring things up. Although i disagree with you, you have gained my respect

racing teaches you to use edges effectively, sure it doesn't give you a controlled turn radius, but the shape of the turn is designed for speed and it's so fun to use when ripping up the mountain outside the park

my ski instructor course taught me a lot about this shit and im glad

I agree. I raced for years and met some of the nicest people and some who are my best friends today. Very few racers are stuck up snobs.

Also many of the racers I know where awesome racers and also awesome at park. Many of them are not any different than you are.

Ski racing is the same as regular skiing, but with all the fun removed. To me skiing is like sex. I don't time it to see how fast i can get to the end.

I think you mean The Ordinary Skier.

Just a short list of former racers:

-Shane

-Seth

-Jon Olsson

-Pollard

-Wallisch

-Todd Ligare

-Daron Rahlves

-Hoji

-Angel Collinson

-The Backstroms

-Suz Graham

theres a difference between ones who have raced competitively, and ones who just kinda did it. but i feel like theres alot of pros who havent raced.

also people say park skiers suck at skiing cause they cant go down a race course without sliding. they dont have razor sharp race skis either. Ive used race skis on a race course and it makes soooo much difference compared to my park skis
