Ski progression

So I've been skiing a total of one time so far and it's definitely something I'll do more of next season. I've been able to hit a blue run while only having to scoot down some of the steep stuff on my first go. I know everyone progresses at different speeds and it depends on how often you go.

What sort of progression would I see(or what sort of progression you guys have seen) if I get a season pass and ski maybe once a week more or less? I'll be living super close to a ton of resorts over the winter so I'll be able to go regularly and plan on joining a ski/snowboard club for the discounts and riding buddies. Do people usually go from snowplowing to hitting street spots in a season if they are persistent in practice and go to the gym when not on the slopes? I've always thought park riding is cool and I'm in decent shape and I've got some bit of aerial control from mountain biking and skateboarding but I'm not an acrobat.

My advise is to spend as much time as possible on the slopes just getting used to sticks on your feet. It may sound a lil silly but if you just hit groomers and moguls and really get the feel for your skis, it’ll be much smoother progressing onto jumps and rails. Hitting streets within a season by skiing less than once a week might be a little optimistic, but people have done it

^^ what he said.

Learn how to actually ski and park shit will come easier due to edge control, and honestly just confidence in ur own abilities. I’d even take a lesson if it’s only your second year. Correct me if I’m wrong NS, but I think it was Candide that said a while back that he doesn’t even ride park for the first half of his season, just so he can hone in on edge control? I could be wrong about who, but it was one of the goats.

Don’t go to the gym, just need weed and energy drinks and you’ll get better

My once a week estimate is a pretty conservative one. I’ve gotta balance studying and price of gear for next season(All i have so far is a 686 Fleece and Jacket) but more than likely I‘ll be able to go much more often. I’ll be able to probably buy used gear from other guys in the snow club as well as learn about spots and get advice.

Dude has been skiing once and plotting street spots already, love to see it

I watched BPC and my dad took me skiing for the first time a few months ago, I think I'm ready to hit a gap jump over the chairlift and ski down an escalator, just hold my J.

good answers so far, hitting street within a year is optimistic but possible. skiing once a week ish is a lot, you're going to improve a ton and have a ball and the world opens up to you exponentially as you learn the fundamentals

this might sound weird but watch a lot of (good) skiing in your downtime. "monkey see monkey do" works so well in this sport it honestly kinda shocks me

have fun, be safe! welcome!

You can def be hitting street spots in a year… street skiing doesn’t have to be to gnarliest quad kink, it can be a little ledge drop or a gap over a fence, whatever your imagination can come up with! Like others said though, focusing on just skiing the mountain and edge control will help tremendously

If you’re solid on a bike it crosses over pretty well. I get better at biking from skiing all winter and vice versa it uses and strengthens different muscles and having the balance and timing from biking definitely makes skiing way easier

I taught myself to ski about 4 seasons ago and can now hit rails consistently, after skiing a 1-2 times per week during the seasons.

My biggest regret is not taking a lesson when I started, or even once I started getting better. I definitely picked up some bad habits, don't be like me

Glad you're stoked on skiing. As for as progression goes, there's no simple answer to your question as it varies so much due to other factors. Riding a lot, starting at a younger age, having experience of other sports, and having natural talent are all factors that make it easier. Regarding street spots, you don't need to be a good skier to hit certain spots. If you become comfortable sliding rails in the park you could probably hit a small down rail. There's lots of other options too, like riding down a ledge with some snow on it or just jumping off something.
