they should be about 3 inches above your head, meade of bamboo, and have extremely large leather baskets on them... you know that thread about baggy ski pants in ski gabber, well, it aplies everywhere, the bigger all your stuff is the better (even counts for goggle gaps). Also - it will help if you get some 201 skis... Don't thank me for the advice - it's the least I can do.

Right, now that that over, just grab some poles and see how you like them, if you want taller ones than grab some longer ones...same if you want shorter ones. Don't worry about buying poles, just go to your local ski hill and grab a pair from the ski shop (if you don't think they'll let you than grab some dudes poles at the lodge, snap them in half and go into rentals holding the broken poles and say you broke you poles and tell them (don't ask) you're going to borrow a pair of theirs for the night, grab them and go - don't give them time to say you're not allowed to take them).

when you turn them upside down and you put your hand under the basket your arm should just be a bit higher than a right angle...if that makes any sense..

when you do the arm test get them and cut them donw about an inch because it keeps your weight forward

i use the arm test like sirjibsalot said that works as a good guide but people like different size poles too. I like shorter poles because there is less in the air they just feel smaller and not as much to hit around when you land so they dont smash you in the face(which sucks)and in the moguls they keep your hands low when you plant the pole on top of a mogul so your hands dont go over your head

I like skiing

I like smaller poles..i use 110cm I am 5'8'...feel better in park and rip in bumps..dont smack your face or drag behind...but suck on 'easy road' Pole with a warrenty are sweet...i have ICE usa and have snapped them 3 times (once the ski patrol ran over them with the snowmobile while carrying me down) and they replace them for free...(I bought 6 years ago and been replaced every season)

Also like scot's...light and strong...but they are poles and really don't make difference....my scot's look cooler...usa colors! So i ski better with them...ha

I use smaller poles also, but for whatever reason my girl likes useing big ones... i guess she just got used to handling big things
