Ski poles...why?

i broke my poles saturday night and today i didnt use any, and it was wicked fun. haha i even got some other kids to do it too. it was pretty funny.

so much fun to do grabs with too

i grab with my whole hand... not just two fingers... and i use poles... poles, no poles who really gives a shit...i do think rails are alot harder without poles.... maybe not alot but poles just seem to help with balance...

no poles is kind of weird in my opinion. i love my poles for several reasons:

1. i like to ski everywhere

2. they mask my flailing arms on overshot landings right before i double eject and faceplant

3. when going over our pumping bump things at our mountain i like to carve over them while pumping which is steezier and makes me go faster than just sraight pumping

4. pole clacking for props is cool

but...

andy mahre is steezy as fuck and he skis pleless so i dont care if u do ski without poles as long as you dont care that i ski with ples

:)

idk if this helps, but to all the people who are scared to jab themself... ski with your poles straps cut off and when you fall, just let go of your poles, thats usally what i do, and they dont land far away from me either.

i thought it was really goofy until a couple of weeks ago. i finally tried it and it is sooo god damned fun, im sure i look goofy, and lots of people at keystone probably laugh at me, but frankly i dont really care, it adds a whole new element, and it just makes it fun!. seriously try it, you feel wierd for a while but then you feel free and it just makes it really fun. o and it makes it really fun.

poles r better...wi no poles u look kinda like a noob...and i use poles for balence..i feel so uncordinated without em

this is just like asking why we have a tip on the back of our skis

or y we have bindings that can pop off instead of snowblade binders

dude poles help u balance more. they get u out of flat spots. get u around in lift lines. what if u dont have enough speed in the pipe or u fall?

That's Pep Fujas. He would mach into a jump, and instead of hitting the lip, rip right next to it, ollie or pop or something wierd with those rockers that the skis he has on have, and drag his hand across the table as he flew about 3 feet above it all the way over the knuckle and down the landing... as was explained to me.

Watch kye peterson in the rail segment at the beginning of show and prove. Or even watch the trailer. His arms flail around and he just looks silly. Poles provide weight to help maintain balance without your arms from flailing around so much.

i think it's a matter of taste personally, andy marhe is doing some sick shit with no poles. However I think the better question is WHY NOT use poles. There's not really any disadvantage to using them-- so why not run em'???

exactly. skiing w/out poles doesnt really work unless you are on snowblades or rentals. they are essential.

If you ski without poles you are either

A. Suck at skiing or

B. Are a complete park rat

Honesty, go try and ski the bumps without poles or any challenging terrain...it would make it so much more difficult.

I can say with confidence that I would be able to ski eveything at my hill just as well poleless as with poles.

I live in Wisconsin, what challenging terrain?

i use poles all over the mountain except sometimes in the park.also i don keep my hands in the loops because when i fall i usually land on them and cant get up. also i hate hiking with my skies on so i take them off and its a pain in the ass to carry my poles and skies up. so most of the time i will hike like 2 times with my poles and say screw it and through them on the side of the park
