do they use digital or film?

They use both. Digital means the images are available for use/transfer as soon as they are uploaded. Slides often have to be sent away for a costly and lengthy development. You could shoot a quicker high quality sequence with a conventional camera (more frames per second) and maybe get richer colors with slides. The sicky Nikon Digital setup with lenses runs about $13,000, where a slide camera could be in the hundreds.

like what bigpgymy said, i think its both. personally i think black and white look better but its tedious, and digital cams are better quality so

Most professional photogs still shoot exclusively film.

I'de say mechanical release digi is the way to go, of course i've taken about 50 shots with film my entire life. You can still get rich colors out of a high res camera and a decent editing program. I really like being able to see the shot right after I take it too.

With film you may think you got a good shot, but once it's developed, may look shitty to you. With digi, you can see it, if you don't like it, get them to do it again until you get the shot.

almost any pro photographer will have an assortment of cameras and lenses.. both digi and not

real photographers shoot slides. everytime i get a roll of slides back im still amazed at the color and clarity. digi cameras are nice and sharp, but you cant beat the organic look and feel of a slide

i hate digital because of that digital delay crap

Most of us shoot film only, however a few guys are starting to shoot a bit of digi, but most of the top mags still wont use it. So film is key.

I use film only, and i hope to stay that way forever. The magazine photo editors, most of whom are photographers, prefer film, the quality is still much better (pixelation and color quality). If you look carefully, you can tell the difference. Digital is super convenient, but almost like cheating...'hey, I will just make my zeros and ones turn from color into black and white'. There is something just weak about that. For sequences, I have to admit, digital is cool, no wasted film. But, photography is still and art, and there is something so fulfilling in picking the right film for the right conditions. Film forever!

i agree^, film takes skill

alev digital is NOT better quality then film allthough to most they can't notice a difference film is, or was superior in quality

if you call shooting digi cheating then anyone who doesn't shoot home made pinhole cameras is cheating.

Hey bacon, my camera can beat up your camera in the dark.

Even that would be cheating. You have to draw everything by charcoal. Charcoal that you made the rocks blackened by fire that used no un-natural source to be lit.

Film or Digital... or charcoal - as long as you take care in creating your images it will be art. All formats take skill to master.

This burrito is delish, but it is filling

i use film just cause i cant even afford skis, let alone a nice digi camera. and then how would i get to the park? on my boots??

mostly film...better quality.

Digital is way better for getting your shit out fast. I can shoot an event and have the photos submitted in minutes. If I'm doing an event for a magazine I'll pick film. Better color and res, hands down. I'm just really impatient.

I use film for high quality shit, but use digi most of the time, cause you can see the pics, and upload it faster

I use 35mm FILM. the digital comes out super blurry and delayed. plus, I like developing pictures in the dark room.

I use digital quite a bit, but even if there were huge advances in digital photography so that there was no difference in quality, I'd still shoot with film just because I love getting in the darkroom to develop the pictures. Playing around with photoshop just isn't the same.
