Ski Patrolman

Yesterday, I was skiing in the park like usual when a patrolman comes over. For about 15 minutes he was just standing at the top of the rope tow (in the way to get off of it, being a douche basically). After that, he proceeds to ski down the side of the park where there are no jumps. He falls flat on his face somehow, gets up and comes back up the rope. At this point I was kind of pissed off that such a dumbass is a ski patrolman. But, as he was leaving the park, he does the ultimate gaper move. Cuts right over the landing on a 35ft jump, as a person was hitting it (who happened to be spinning so he wouldn't have noticed the ski patrolman there). The ski patrolman freaks and STOPS right on the landing. The guy hitting the jump lands and takes him out. It was a brutal hit too. So both guys get up, the skiier is hurting a little bit and the patrolman is being a general pussy. After they were both up and talking, the ski patrolman goes over to him and says, "What the hell do you think you're doing?! How about you pay attention to what is going on. You park rats are ruining skiing." Then the ski patrolman proceeds to go over to him, rip off his ticket and kick him off the hill.

I was in awe this whole time. Any one else agree this is total bullshit?

i would be heated if that shit happened. then if he tried to pull my pass i would probably be close to hitting him. would this be a good idea, absolutly not but whatever. some people are just dumb as fuck

What can he expect when he stops on a landing when someone is going off. He's such a dumbass. Is there anywhere I can report him to get his patrol "license" revoked?

i think i would have raged too, but don't the "official terrain park rules" work in your favor there. like the ski patrollman didn't look before he dropped etc. i would have challenged that for sure.

Yeah I would've fought it too, and I'd assume the park rules would work in his favor but the knobshine didn't really give him time to talk before he escorted him off the hill.

I truly feel sorry for all of you, who suffer from having to deal with these ignorant d-bags everytime you go out doing what we all love. I cannot really understand where the purpose of having ski-patrol in a park? Off course not every ski-patroller is like the piece of shit mentioned in this thread, but apparently he is not the only one. In what ways other than ensuring the safety of gapers does the ski patrol do good?

thats such bullshit. its basic park etiquite to check to see if someones hitting a feature before crossing the landing. i woulda run that patrol man's show if he even tried to argue a bullshit point like that.

I took the patrol course this fall and I decided to do my on hill training out west. I'm glad I did because the people who were in my class didn't even know how to take ski boots or snowboard boots off. I see them every sunday on the hill and it's amazing they're even allowed to take the course when they can't even ski!

wow thats retarded, i've almost hit so many people cause they think that the landing is a fun slope to ride down

I'm a ski instructor and ski patrol and honestly I work with some real d bags/

I'm one of the younger guys that work at my hill but still. Some of the old guys I work with are retarded I swear. I respect all kinds of skiing but sometimes it's like honestly gramps, retire already. Some ski patrol just needs to be run over by someone in the park to have a wakeup call.

word, they get right to the knuckle then snow plow over and fall,

and the instructors at my mtn take trains of little kids off of the lips for the rails and boxes in the park. its rediculous.

agreed, today for the first time ski patrol did something, some kids skied underr the chairleft ( its preety much a run because everyone goes down it ) but these ski patrolers stop te two littlislt kids going down and just yell at themm i was likee woah. ( ski patroll doesnt DO SHIT AT MY HILL) jsujt kinda sit in there shack

ski patrol needs to realize they aren't police.. they are there to help injured people and thats really it.. looking out for preventable injuries or dangerous obstacles too.. in the midwest there isn't a whole lot of need for patrol, out west though they do a lot of good with avy control and all that. some of them take their jobs way too seriously though

yep, skiing today theres little rollovers with no one coming so im hiking up them to get enough speed for this kinda shitty rail but anyways, a ski patroller comes and yells at me. besides, i was on the side of the roller, wow. thats solitude for you.

ahh they do that so much at stratton. i once tried to get past a train of kids and the intructor threatened to pull my pass. she actually tried to grab some other guys pass but her pushed her over, tucked, and hauled ass

I was in the mini park at vail a couple weeks ago and nearly landed on like 10 kids. Stupid fucking instructor girl was lapping her class through the park and right over the landings of the jumps. There is like 3500 acres of green trails here why the fuck are you taking 4 year old into the park?!?!

i almost got my pass pulled yesterday. I was just skiing down into the lift line, completely in control no one around me really, nothing crazy or out of the ordinary. All of a sudden Im getting yelled at and the patroller pulled me out of the lift line and asked me why I thought he was talking to me. I told him I had no idea and then I got lectured about how when there are slow signs I have to go as slow as the slowest person in my general area and that he observed me making no effort to slow down as I went by the slow sign. When he found out I was a racer he got even more pissed off and told me to tell all my little racer friends that they need to obey the slow signs.
I was really respectful since I appreciate the purpose of ski patrol and they work really hard to get the the mountain open and the avy danger under control, but arghh it was really frustrating. He informed me that an infraction like this normally results in them taking my pass for a month, but because he was such a nice guy (/sarcasm) he would give me a freebie. I think he felt bad for yelling at me so much after I was respectful and polite and I also dont think he expected me to be a girl after he stopped me.

thats no fair, girls have the pussy-power-factor, they can make male patrollers do what they want :(

today a lifty got mad at me.
im skiin with my friend brady and the line at chair 3 is hella long, so we go up chair 5 which services the bunny hill to get to chair 2.
so my other friend jimmy comes up and was like why are you riding this chair?im like : cause i dont wanna hike the bunny hill.
this is where the lifty come in.
him: your not hiking the bunny hill anyway.
me: i just ignore him and talk to jimmy, when he skis off i go to move up in line and the liftys still right there looking at me so im like: what do you want man?
him: you cant hike the bunny hill
me: i do it all the time
him: you CANT!
me: calm down. then i get on the lift

thats my story. no claim implied.

I went up the platter lift to get to the only rail park open at the time in nov. and there is a sign at the top that says unload here, so I get off. Then some patroller starts flippin shit and screams "STAY THERE OR YOUR PASS IS MINE" me and my buddy are standing there like wtf is his deal. he proceeds to tel us that you must get off after the sign or the platter could wrap over the top bar and make the enitre thing collapse. I said, its metal how can it collapse? he says "you know what I mean". uhhhh no? Anyways he wanted my name and shit for idk what but I just said sorry bro wont happen again and deicded to leave. so i still cant understand why we got in trouble for gettign off where the sign says to get off.

hahaha, so today I was at some shitty little hill with a tow rope... yes a tow rope in some small town. The hill is maybe 300 feet long and they have like 10 dudes in crappy snow boots and construction vests calling themselves ski patrol. You wanna see useless, these guys are the epitome. I fly by a dude switch on the way to a kicker and he freaks out on me and says slow down.

I told him to take off the stupid vest and get a pair of skis.

its basic SKIING etiquette to check for "cross traffic," no matter what kind of traffic that is, whether its jumping or just regular old skiing. I would've taken that to a manager for sure

being a holiday weekend, there's tons of johnny-weekenders and i-skee-five-days-a-year out there. ive luckily not been on duty for this mess, but ive seen quite a few people getting carted off in toboggans. so have some common sense.

I would have been pissed if he stands at the bottom of the landing and then takes me ticket for him being a dumb ass. My friends ticket was taken the other day as we were going through some trees a patrol man comes out of nowhere on a snowmobile and cuts off my friend and goes over the nose of his skis and my friend was thrown into a tree the patrol man comes over to him and goes you should pay more attention instead of fooling around and obviously my friends short temper went off and he flipped on him then the patrol man ended up taking his ticket but my friend immediately went to a manager after being thrown off the hill and ended up being allowed to ski again because we backed him up on his story. overall patrol man are pricks anywhere

wow , wada dick.
another, my student and i ( im level 2) rode the chair with ski patrol guy the other day, and i was talkin about skis and twins, BC, race etc w.e and bindings etc and we got talkin about using edges cuz we was just learning and the patrol guy is like tryin to tell my student how to ski and it was all totally wrong and absolutly retarded cuz he can hardly ski himself. i stoped him and was like um dude, im the instructor here you have no training or knowledge of any of this so could you please stop trying to talk like you know what your talking about because you definetly dont!.
he's like all you young guys think you know everything and have no respect. " i was like no i do have some idea what im doing and know what im talkin about so please stop. and then we got off the lift and he hasnt talked to me since.
