Ski patrol is terrible

We were in the park and this kid i know went off a jump and landed on his back. he was fine and okay to ski down but ski patrol decided to take him down in the toboggon anyways. we left and went to the other part of the park. about 5 minutes later we see ski patrol going down the park with him in the toboggon. the leader takes a sharp turn, falls over and flips the toboggon with him inside it...they really need to train those people better lol

I somewhat doubt the legitimacy of this story. Even if it is legit, it's one case and can't speak for all ski patrollers.

I for one am very happy to know that there are people out on the mountain who work hard every day to keep me safe while shredding and that will help me out if I break myself off.

read the post...he was fine and he could walk and he wanted to go down. and the kid that thinks its not real, my frirend posted the same story

Hahah,

I will say though I have huge amounts pf respect for west coast patrollers but to be honest most patrollers that I have encountered here in Ontario only do it for the free seasons pass and are truly ass holes.

btw 95% of ski patrols are not terrible and im glad they are there when i crash hard and cant move. these people are there to save your life and accident can happen.

Yeah I believe you. My grandpa always said when I was younger to never let the ski patrol take you down if you don't have to for that reason. You don't need to have any skiing skills to be a ski patrol. Case in point, the minister at my mom's church came from England, learned how to ski and got a job patrolling the same year. He's a great guy, but I wouldn't want to be in the toboggan while he was steering it.

I've heard stories of people fracturing bones in their neck or back in accidents and feeling fine on the scene, then suddenly becoming paralyzed or vegetabled from moving twisting their back and pushing broken bones into their spinal cord. But yeah, its better to walk it off and take chances.

ginko is slaying this thread, +10 internets

but for reals, if he really did have a severe back injury and they flipped with him in the toboggan that would NOT be good. They should really be slower and more cautious. even if they know hes fine they shouldn't be whipping down the trail.

true, but what was not mentioned in this story was that instead of avoiding the jump line and going next to the jumps, they went right over the nuckles on the big jump row, and were going fast. They guy in front looked like he was hocky stopping, but turned, anyway it looked really unorganized and unplanned.

Snoqualmie sucks anyway. so shut up.

If you make a thread, but want to bring the "but you weren't there" sass, then go fist yourself.

Tobaggon probably flipped due to copious amounts of sticky slush anyway.

well sometimes they insist on taking you for liability reasons, so u dont sue them later for taking you in when you insisted you were fine. but yea they need more training i cant beleive they flipped it over. THAT will get you sued!

thats the mentality of an east coast ski patroler. or atleast some of them. some are pretty chill

I've been brought down in a toboggon like 3 times. The only complaint I have is the rooster tail to the face from the snow mobile. They are generally pretty good!

Me my friends built this kicker to a river gap and it was completley on the side of the run not harming the gapers and they made us take it down

I went down on one behind a snowmobile when i was like 11, but it was like raised 2-3 feet and i'm pretty sure none of the rooster tail reached me, they should all be like that. That would suck to have a rooster tail in your face the whole time.

central patrollers are 80-year pensioners with nothing better to do. some places have chill patrollers, others dont. I for one haven't met a single alpental 'troller who didnt have their shit down to a science, because of the retarded amount of courses and certification they have to take to become and remain a patroller.

this is just volunteer patrol

our lift evacuation sucks. they use the ropes that seperate people in the lift lines that are about 0.5 cm thick and not even real rope to repel people. have you sit on a little chair thats tied to the end of the rope. then they repel you by wrapping the rope arround their arms. they dont have a system to stop the person from falling if they let go of the rope. they need a real belay system

these are all stories of US patrol.

What bad experiences ( I'm talking about skill wise, not that you got your pass clipped for going too fast or something stupid) have people had with Canadian patrollers?

why don't you shut the fvck up. ski patrol at certain mountains risk their life every single day before you even leave the comfort of your own bed to make sure you can ski safe. ever hear of big wally out of jackson hole?
how about the other patrollers that have had kids or young adults die on them.
or patrollers that have lost a sled due to a equipment break, getting knocked out by said sled, and having another patroller risk injury to save the person in the runaway sled.

So next time you dare say ski patrol is terrible, why don't you think about those who have risk their lives and save others, and probable have dealt with more shit you couldn't even fathom.
Its ignorant little fvcks like you that make our job difficult. i have clipped only 2 passes in my time. 1 was a foreigner, and one was a park rat who had a attittude.

One time my friend dislocated his shoulder and ski patrol took him in the taboggan. They didn't fall and were really helpful.

That story is boring as fuck which is why you never hear about all the times ski patrol does something good, only when they make a mistake

Rarely do I believe that hate is deserved on this site ebcasue there is already a ridiculous amount of it. But you, my friend, are a true jackass.

Coming from someone who has worked on a ski mountain in both CO and CA the last two seasons, I can tell you that ski patrol is a group of extremely tough and passionate people. As a lifty, the perks of the job are being on the mountain, getting first tracks, and getting ride breaks. And I once thought that it was pretty similair to being a ski patrol in terms of the benefits of the job and the fun you have.

HOWEVER. These people have an extremely gnarly job that involves experiencing death and grisly gruesome sights on a daily basis. Not to mention their discipline that puts them out there every morning at the ass crack of dawn, on top of burly lines and in the way of intense danger, to ensure our safety. These are good people who are out there for reasons beyond themselves, and you decide to criticize them based on one small mistake that involves your (probably punkass) bitch of a park rat friend?

Grow up and goodnight.

Dude's so lucky. Usually they make you pay extra for the ride if they Lincoln the sled with you in it.

Fractured my back in 3 places once. At the time I thought I was just tense from the crash, refused any help, and skied down. Continuing to think it was muscle problems I let it go and it ended up putting me in a back brace and physical therapy for almost 6mo. Don't be stupid take the help.

its possible to fall, break your back and feel alright. then start skiing and paralyze yourslef. the patroller made the right call. it is a little bit scary that he cant control the tobogan though.

Oh, you mean the lift evac procedure that pretty much every mountain follows with almost the same supplies?

How dare they!

many patrolers are terrible skiers, when i had to take the "test' to take the tobagan down, it was just a huge joke, it really isnt hard to do but alot of people cant do it at all

i thought this was a callout thread for the movie Ski Patrol when i first saw the title in which cas i was gonna make a big argument how its a great movie BUT........ i was wrong

god damn you whine a lot... god forbid you ever have to be assisted by this poorly trained and terrible ski patrol....

Alright Fuck Face,

You obviously need to shut the fuck up right about meow, it is pretty obvious that you are speaking from zero experience from anything other then xbox and starbucks.

Ok, moving on. I have rappelled using nothing but 550 cord and a carabiner. It is possible. If I let go of the rope I would have fallen 50 ft, to rocks. Holding on to 550 cord is harder then holding on to a rope.

I didn't even have a seat!?!?!?!?!

Grow the fuck up, life is full of risks and none of us are getting out of this life alive.

As for your buddy, back injuries are nothing to fuck with. It is really easy for some mild shock to take over, masking a real injury. In a situation like you were in there is no reason to go have it checked out with minimal risk.

P.S. I capitalized fuck face, because that is your new name, Fuck Face.

Also in a week or so I will actually be changing your name to Fuck Face, I will pick an easy pass word for you to figure out so you can log back on. If you pm me your phone number, email or facebook I will send you your new password after I make it.
