Ski Packs

+K for any stories or experience with ski PACKS. I'm an ADVANCED skier, who usually sticks to resorts. Lots of HIKING in and out of bounds, like revelstoke stuff. INVENTORY would include an avalanche shovel, probe, saw, goggle case, and an SLR with its case. PRICE RANGE ~$250 wondering what size (30L? 50L?) what brand (MEC? Black Diamond?) and if there are any pack out there with straps on the sides to slip my skis on my back, that would be ideal. Thanks

I used BD packs all of last season (60+ days) and they are quality pack I've never had any issues with durability. If it's slackcountry and from everything you said you carry I would reccomend an Outlaw or Covert. I used the Bandit pack all of last season, in it I carried shovel, probe, skins, extra layer and that filled the pack I couldn't carry anymore, I used every pocket on my outerwear to carry food/water/first aid.

The BD Cover is a great sidecountry and day-touring pack. At 32L, the Covert can easily can hold all your BC gear, plus extra layers, water and lunch. The Bandit (11L) would be best for resort skiing; you can carry necessary avy gear, but not much else but a squished pb&j. Armada has a colab BD-Avalung pack this season that is worth checking out too.

I just bought a BCA Stash BC pack. 30L, built in hydration, and it was $80 (on sale).

So check out backcountry.com

You really need to go and check them out in a good shop. Load up with your gear, wear your ski jacket, strap the skis on and try it on. The length is very important for comfort. Don't trust much of what you read online.

While we're on the topic of black diamond ski packs. Ive been having a look about for a new pack and saw the BD/armada collab, the spec on the pack and the avalung pack is decent but then i looked at the price... WTF my local (freezeproshop) are selling the regular at £150 (~$237) [and the avalung at £240 (~$380)]. Having just come from the dakine section of their shop where the most expensive equivalent pack is £80 (~$126) and then same BD pack without the armada colab and im assuming with all the same tech is only £95 ($150).

Do armada just expect us to cough up an extra £55 for a bit of branding and some coloured stripes? its a fucking joke.

I dont know if its just freeze jumping up the price on a new item in their shop that kids will undoubtedly buy just because of the branding but I know what I definitely wont be buying this autumn.

i got the camelbak snoblast which is a great winter hydration pack.... if u get it off they're website i'd recommend their electrolyte tablets they're really good and help you last longer during the day
