Ski near Los Angeles : shops, resorts etc..

Hello !

I'm a 18 years old french student and I am going to come in LA, CA during 2 monthes,in one week.

I would like to know if there is ski resort with park opened during this period, which are quite closed LA.

Moreover, I would be pleased if you could give some nice shops in LA on in the internet in order to buy new skis and poles.

Thanks you

Mathieu

Everything in the state is closed except for Mammoth. 2 parks open now and a new park is under construction higher up on the mountain. New halfpipe (22ft) will open tomorrow (5/17/09). The whole resort is supposed to be open through June 14th.

If your looking to buy skis I would go to Doc's Ski Haus on Santa Monica Blv. They switch to fishing in the summer though so I don't know if they still have skis on display. But its right next to Santa Monica Pier and 3rd Street Promenade, which is a good time, and Venice Boardwalk where you can buy some weed and a piece if you smoke.

what mamoth still has some parks open? Im here on vacation in san diego and willing to take the trip, dose anyone have a website or any info on this, I would really appreciate your help.

I am bumping this thread because i'm starting to look at Colleges in the LA area and was wondering what legit resorts are close to LA?

I am a college student in LA that moved from Park City, UT and have found that I am still able to find a place to ski every weekend and the snow isn't even half bad.

The closest two resorts to Los Angeles are Mt. Baldy and Mt. High. I've never been to Mt. Baldy but I hear that it isn't really that good. Mt High on the other hand is only 15min further and has a GREAT terrain park. Its not the largest resort, but if you like park it is perfect cause that is literally all they have there. (Prices are decent too).

You will find that most resorts here are overrun by snowboarders and that is definitely true at Big Bear. Its actually only a couple hours from LA and has some good snow. Once again, the park is great and big bear also has good runs, vertical drop, and high speed lifts. So if you have a car thats an option.

Personally I make the 5 hour trip up to mammoth every weekend. It is a grade A resort with everything. Plus it is huge. Probably twice the size of Park City Mountain Resort. Most So Cal schools have teams/clubs that go up to mammoth either every weekend or at least once a month which really helps with gas and lodging. What school are you looking at? I can probably give you a little information on the ski club they have cause I've met lots of people up in mammoth over the years and the clubs tend to mingle...

Hope this helps!
