i know everybodys gonna tell me how they dont sell many copies, and how much hard work it is, and blah blah blah.

i just bought happy dayz, stereotype and blunt of the poorboyz website, it cost me almost 100 dollars, to me that just seems outrageous for three forty or so minute videos.

on the other hand, i think in the haze is underpriced. what do i think a ski movie should cost? around twenty dollars.

anybody else feel this way?

yeah, they're kind of on the expensive side. it's like ordering playboy tv, expensive, sure, but you get what you want out of it.

I don't much about the business, but just think how much it cost to rent a helicopter all day, then do it for about 10-20 days. Plus the filmers need to pay for the film, cameras, etc.. They all need lift tickets for all the resorts they film at. Since they don't sell millions of copies like hollywood movies do, they have to keep the price high so they can make a profit, sometimes just to break even. I don't know much about the business but that is my take. Besides I would rather fork over a some extra cash and buy something I can watch 100s of times, instead of some crappy movie from Blockbuster, and only watching it 1 or 2 times!

the last reply kinda nailed it. I just wanted to add that with advancements in technology, like the miniDV format, hopefully filmmaking will become less expensive, and possibly the price tags on movies will reflect that.

Good music also costs a lot for the copyright... thats why most of the music sucks!

But if worst comes to worst and we never get a good deal on movie prices, then, once again, technology will help us out. DVDs make it easier to copy and distribute (DivX), so guys, help everyone out and get some videos out on Kazaa.

 
they are expensive, but when you think about it it is worth it compared to some hollywood video. If I bought a video it would be a ski movie. I havn't spent money on videos in probably half a year if not more. everything I was going to say was summed up in previous posts.

dude its worth the money if your like me and youi watch the movies liek a hundred times, think about it, your only paying like 40 cents everytime you watch it, its worth it.

yea Mike Douglas is so right..just think about the cost per use..if you were to go and see a movie at the theater for 10 dollars..thats 5 an hour so all you would have to do is watch the movie 6 times to equal that..oh well just support the companies they deserve some sort of a profit for their hard work and dedication to the sport.

for the amount of times you watch the videos, if you count up all the times really each video would be like paying 15 cents to watch it each time. Its so worth it. I don't now what I would do without videos TV is so fuckin lame. You Americans should be fuckin thankful. I buy tghe same videos as you but it costs me more htan 1 and a half times what you pay. Happy Dayz, Blunt and Stereotype cost me 156 dollars canadian. so shut the fuck up you little baby.

Go buy one of those underground $10 vids, they are dissapointing and not worth it. Vids are worth every cent you pay for them, think how many time you watch them, like has been said above.

Any you guys who cant afford more that 3 vids, go get a god damn job. $100 aint' going to get you shit anymore.

if you think about the actull expenses of travel, and yadda yadda yadda 30 bucks seems steep but these guys put hard work of lots of editing and gettting the sequences just right which sometimes not even money can cover, so surport these guys and dont bitch but buy the goods and when you watch them you will be stoked and wont even be thinking about how much you spent on the vid.

1. everytime you go skiing you just bought a ticket that likely costs 10 dollars more than your movie.

2. you buy a hollywood movie for $15. you watch it 3 or 4 times and are sick of it. you buy a ski movie and probably watch it 3 or 4 times in the first day.

For those of you that are still thinking that ski vids are way overpriced, let me tell you that you're getting one hell of a killer deal if you ask me, no matter what movie you buy.

Each of the companies out there are putting a year's worth of blood, sweat, tears, and most likely every dollar to their name and then some into their movies. A $30 price tag on this stuff is really a bargain, and if anyone begs to differ, I'd love to hear exactly why they feel that way. I'm thoroughly confident that you will be stoked with any of the vids that you spend the money on this year... mine included. In fact, if you buy my movie and don't think your $30 was well spent, I'll give you your money back no problem.

I can tell you first hand that there is just about NO money in making ski videos. I'm not charging $30 a vid to line my pockets, but rather pay all the bills that I've racked up in the past year making the vid. Aside from TGR and MSP, I don't think any of us turn much of a profit, if any at all... right Levin! But hey, at least by turning in a loss every year I don't have to pay income tax... so maybe there ARE advantages to the financial end of ski movie production?

Support the sport and buy ski movies... buy the $30 vids from the bigger name companies, and buy from the $10 vid from the kid down the street. Buy as many as you can afford to. Trust me, its money spent that one way or another goes right back into helping out the sport.

Now go buy Strike Three so I can afford to make another movie next year instead of joining up with Levin to be a male escort... I promise it will be worth your while.

 
in freeze it says that jonny has run out of money 3 times. thats too bad, but i don't care. 30 bucks is way to much. they need to get sommore corporate sponsors that have the big bucks, i mean we spend 500 bucks for skis, that money could flow back into the system. i like the pricing structure in one of the first posts.

I think I'm going to go buy a ski movie now. not sure which one, but everything I've heard makes it worth while. the only hollywood made videos that I've bought and are worth it are the sw trilogy and the matrix and a few disney ones that I can't think of. everything else I have paid for has only been watched maybe three times.

And yes a day of skiing costs $10 more than a vid, but which would you rather do now? honestly.

I'm not gonna rip the good movies that are worth $30, I'm going to buy them. But if your movie sucks, then I'm just gonna steal it and watch it a couple times. Its called natural selection, if you suck, you die and the ones that don't suck live. We don't need 50 new jib movies every year of kids in their local park throwing down what people across the country are throwing down. MSP and TGR movies are worth the money cause they can take you to places you could never go, or probably never go, like AK and the such.

Just a note... I plan on making a video this year, but if it sucks then I'm not gonna expect people to buy it. I'm doing it because I love skiing and producing videos.

 
Buy 'In the Haze' if you want a good movie for less. But JoshB and Jibtech are out there and know what it costs to do it, so you might want to heed their words. I'm not saying vids aren't expensive...I think they are, but the cost of making them pretty much determines their price. It's just economics.

Just make sure that the videos are semi-long. I used to be bitter (still bought them) about snowboard videos, 1/2 hour long for like 45$. Then I bought Propaganda last year for 40$ + a CD and I've watched that movie over 100 times! Totally don't feel bad when a movie has solid content like that. Will definetly purchase a few vids this year! Keep rollin'

$30 is not too expensive for a ski vid. fuck CD's are $30 sometimes, why dont you just go complain about that too.

You guys who complain about spending money all the time are annoying little tools. If you dont buy the vids than guys like Jibtech, Berman, etc. wont be making them for much longer and then you wont even have the option to buy them or not.

There isnt anywhere in a 3 hour radius to my house where i can buy a decent ski movie (warren miller flicks dont count). You have to send away on the internet for them because they are so rare. If anyythig hollywood is ripping everyone else off and were getting a good deal.

 
Ski movies are expensive. If you don't like that, too fucking bad. Don't be a dick and steal movies. If only you had ANY idea of the work that goes into making a decent movie, and how hard the ski industry is to work in, you'd quit bitching about paying $35 to obtain a movie that you'll watch more often than the porno you stole from your parents.
