Ski movies kind of suck

except for an elite few the majority suck so bad. they are just a bunch of segments put together. of course the skiing is good but i think more movies need to be like blizzard of ahhs. that movie was so well done. it wasent non stop tricks and rails it was actually showing what these guys were doing. it was like a story. its hard to explain but i think that was by far the greatest ski movie ever made because it took you to all these different locations, it wasent segment after segment with no talking and nothing but singing. it made you feel as if you were with them when they were in squaw or chamonix. when i watch tbc or happy dayz or any other movie by the major guys its so repetitive. i know its been said before. more movies need to be like greg stumps.

i watch ski movies for the footage. if you want to see a well made movie watch lord of the rings or terminator

I see what your saying with ski movies being somewhat repetitive but I know that movies are starting to stray from that now. Whiteshine is a good example of an original video and I know that with times there will be more individuality.

Also, in the winter I get bored of ski videos because I watch them so much that they don't have the same kind of excitment. Then last week I popped in War for the first time since march and it got me so pumped to go out and ski because I hadn't seen it in a while. Also why snowboard videos seem so sick because most of us aren't exposed to snowboard videos as much. But freeskiing is a relatively new sport and year after year the videos get better as a whole which is good.

I think ski producers should progress towards the feeling of everyone in the movie being close friends, sessioning feature after feature, going from country to country. Also, ski movie producers need to follow TBC's example and walk away from the old-one-skier-segment-after-another and cut things up instead. It takes the focus away from the little skier and puts everything into a bigger picture.

and ski movie producers should also follow TBC's example and have stylish name titles and graphics.

Imagine if skate movies did a long story about every rail they hit and every hardship that came along. It would never end.

well put.

and why diss on the movies that are cut like music videos? It is more image oriented than vox. Painters don't write a whole book explaining a single work of art just so people will get it. They just paint the colors and let the imaging speak for itself. Maybe its just a preference. When a movie has no words, some people are completley blinded and lost because they can't see past the void of narration and just see a bunch of clips of skiing with music "thrown" in. Others notice every little detail and manifestation and take it into account with the entire expression of the film. Are you left brained, or right brained?

i dont think ski movies suck at all. They are improving every season, which is what is needed. I think that they are amesome.. and its a ski movie man.. obviously its repetitive.. it skiing..

this goes back to the first post.. "if you want to watch a good movie watch lord of the rings" thats exactly it. There is only so much you can do with a movie if its all about skiing.. where as hollywood can do a movie on any theme they want.

You have to get more involved with a ski movie if you think it is repetitive.. check out the gear each ridder is wearing.. the new tricks there doing, the skis there on etc... Everytime i watch a ski movie i notice something new about it.. If you just think its repetitive then you need to pay more attention to what is going on.

so was the one that was radio-station themed... i don't remember the name, probably because i am trying to block it from my memory.

WSKI106 was okay, but TBPs flicks have been getting progressivly gangrastain or rastagangstian as time goes on.

haha i bought the blizzard of ahhs at a pawn show for $1.. it was a good find. Any Ski Movie is kinda like what your saying though.. meaning the acutal ski movie's 1,2,&3

That is like saying you watch a porno for the plot, you gotta fastforward to the good shit, in this case, chest deep pow pow, or switch 1440 over chads...

Ha, if you want a ski movie with a story line, try "Better Off Dead" w/ John Cussack, or "Aspen Extreme", other than that, I LUVVV the Booter Crunk and the War.

Dude, ski movies need a plot or something. We need something like that movie "Extreme Ops" where there are terrorists, and you must do cool tricks and gaps to blow up thier snomobiles and helicopters. That would be an instant best seller. By the way, Extreme Ops TOTALLY RULES! EXTREME!

check out afterlame, lame, afterbang, the community project or something. there snowboarding but they are what you are looking for

yeah i kinda agree also. i don't think ski movies suck. but i think they could be improved. i like it when there isnt just shot after shot and part after part but yeah its hard to explain

Warren Miller movies are pretty much that good. Footage isnt all taht great, but they are starting to get better.

I'm pretty sure Show and Prove will do exactly what this guy is looking for, with a movie that chronolgically based with the season, following athletes and such.

Yeah I'm startinng to not like the ski movies that are coming. not to be hating or anything bt I'm getting really sick of back country hits. They were cool when people first started doing them. Now it seems like every hit in the movie is back country and I'm getting sick of it.

Quick is good exsample of a good video. It's coming out this fall by the roundtopriders. Only 12$ you can pre-oder it now. I'm betting its going to be better than machtsticks movie this year.

1) Backcountry hits and urban rails are necessary...it adds originality to the movie. Imagine if every single movie just showcased cliche park setups the movie would get boring very quick.

2) Ski movies need to stop delivering the message "we are more hardcore than you" and actually RELATE to its viewers...much like any hollywood movie does.

3) Afterlame is a really good example of how a snowsports movie should be...it's not perfect, but it is better than any movie I have seen out of the snowboard and ski movie industry. I'm not just jumping on the robotfood bandwagon either, it explains how the trips went, it's fun to watch, and there is some really sick snowboarding in it. I really wish Robotfood came back and made a new movie.

what i ment was it wasnt just peoples parts put to music. there was a lot of talking about the trips and stuff. the segments werent just rider after rider it was session/trip after session/trip

not exactly, not in those two movies....they are completely part based (rider parts to music), not that i don't love them. you must be thinking about afterlame, the semi "documentary" styled flick.

jesus, why cant kids just accept that times change... it's just how it is, if you dont like the movies now, then watch old school shit, personally i think production companies are doing a sick job.
