Ski movies from a few years ago vs. new ones

new ones are much better with the videos and the music and the skiing but older videos have a fun fool around session a rail feel. Ski movies these days seem serious like it is a job instead of a fun hobby

I agree, Older movies have that edge of creativity to them. But the newer vids have some sick shots. In the Teddy Bear Crisis, the shot that was taken with the half pipe gap was done on a zip line.

ya know i was just thinking about that today, like the movies a couple of years ago just had that feeling to it. Maybe it was just me seeing stuff I didnt think possible. But like JP Auclair doing the straight jacket love that stuff.

yeah like watch clay ski movie 2 then watch hit list, it just seems like they were having more fun skiing for ski movie 2

It's because during those movies they were still figuring out that you can do all this sort of stuff on skis. back then doing a 720 was a huge deal and if yo ucould do a 9 you were the man. The sport has progressed.

hell yes dude. i love that movie, i bought it from nick mercon up at high north a couple summers ago, he signed it, too.

i think the biggest difference is that to me, some of the new movies (especially X=10 for example) feel a bit over-edited.

Wow I really wanted to make a thoughtful good response to this thread but i just finished writting an essay and I just cant type any more. What a shame.

it's because film companies have like mission statements and shit now. Back in the day PBP was so sick because they had only shitty songs to work with, but JP and JF and Vinne were running shit. And Tanner was only 17 or 18, Pollard was the only one trowing shit without a cross, and sw270 on was the illest shit on a rail. So when you saw a kid with a du-rag it was novel and funny, but you could still go out and wear one without having to carry a gun around like Ninthward, hahaha.

dont worry its just progression, itll go full circle. just look at snowboarding movies. the old mac dawgs and shit were super hardcore but it didnt look like the riders were having much fun. but then, with the advent of lame, stuff got more fun. then there is the new airblaster movie december, that is just 2 guys fucking around having a great time, so dont worry, the fun times will come back.

I wasn't in to skiing 5 years ago so i wouldn't know. The new ones are sick though. War and Soul Purpose are good ones.

i don't know i think all the movies i saw so far this year sucked. i think ski movies need to tell stories like they use too! although the skiing and the production are amazing! i think the industry needs to take a hint from stump!

the fact that the od movies were full of brand new stuff is a big factor. i dont expect to ever again be as stoked as the first time i saw Propaganda
