Ski movies are overated

dumbest thing ive ever heard, you know how much footage they have to get to make a vid, and shooting it with the cameras in the helicopters, and getting the rights to play songs, and how many times you will eat shit going for the really good shots, making a name for yourself so that you can get sponsors so that you can have a quality video, just to name a few, so much dedication and work goes into making a movie, and i hope you just get destroyed on this thread for a long ass time, which you will, considering you are on the 2nd page in less than 12 hours

so i take it that means that you arent gonna put up any of your edits that are equally as good or better than some ski movies we have all seen? comon sac up and show us some of your work so we can all pawn you for claiming like you have been. please do it. it will make my week.

its not hard to make a halfway decent film. but thats amature shit. they get the music to match up with the hucks and landings and get everything set up nice. plus nobody is hella famouse for their editing skills. so it really doesnt matter whether its easy or not. they dont get alot of the credit.

You have no fucking idea what your talking about. You dont even have the slightest clue as to what goes into making a movie. These guys bust their asses every day for about 6 months straight. They'll go out, set up a jump, spend all day on it and mabey only get one shot. Heli skiing trips usually only produce 3-6 shots from a 10 day trip. You just have no fucking clue. And the editing they do is a lot harder then you think. Just cuase you can throw together a vid doesnt mean that you can make something just as good ad deceseare or berman. It takes talent to do the shit they do and a lot of hard work and dedication. Have some fucking respect.

dude that's why the big names dont just get props for editing their vids, they get props for filming, directing, AND editing their vids. I'm glad you are good at takin other peoples footy and putting it together, but it's not so easy when you have to go out and get all the shots yourself. sure, no one aspect of it is all that challenging, but actually putting an entire ski video together start to finish is quite the task.

this is a good example of how snowboard movies blow ski movies out of the water, but to say making ski movies is easy, isnt fair, sure editing may sound easy and be easy in some ways, but when u get into colour correction, timing to beats, to fully understand editing you must understand the song, the program and the style you want to edit. Then when you want to get into the special sorta effects, that takes alot of time, like making good titels or using green screens or anything like that takes alot of editing knowledge and kno how. i do agree with somethings, like just rider segments and what not gets boring, its much more fun to watch a ski movie with a plot then just ski shot after ski shot after ski shot, and im my personal opion i want a ski movie that will make me want to ski and make me stoked on skiing, i have seen very few ski movies that do that, altho back to my first point, most snowboard movies i see get me so stoked to go out and ski and film and make a super fun movie.

im not sure what to say....... ya i agree tho, i think a good SOLID movie is cool, like going overboard with the editing is really gay. i think a good shot film and good skiing is all that matters. like SH6 looks so sick, they started using boom sticks in it, good quality. I think a perfect ski movie is good skiing, good music (so important) then editing

at the risk of being redundant, you dont know what you are talking about. First of all editing is only part of a movie.

Filming is not easy, you have to work hard all winter long to get enough quality footage. It takes good artistic vision and lots of practice to film well, especially in things where you have just one chance to get the shot. you have to talk to potential sponsors distrubutors, places to premiere and other marketing stuff. You're running a bussiness. Music rights are a bitch, its not easy finding enough affordable songs to fit in your movie.

As for editing, making a 2-3 min edit is nothing like making a movie. your sorting through maybe an hours worth of footage finding what shots you want to use. with a full-length movie you would be amazed at the amount of footage that has to be sorted through to figure out what clips to use. you have to design a layout for the movie and decide where clips should go in sections what fill/lifestyle stuff to use and how much to use. Color correction for that amount of footage sucks, not only are you trying to make the shots look better, but footage from different light levels and conditions needs to flow well together. syncing the footage to music is easy on a very basic level, but is done to a much much higher degree in a professional movie. Not to mention other editing stuff that you most likely cannot do.

Also making a 2-3 min edit that is semi-interesting isnt that hard.

But making a 1/2 hour hour long ski movie interesting is not easy.

There is plenty more things as well why you are wrong, but i dont feel like typing any more.
