I think the real problem is that the ski company with the biggest budget makes movies where every shot is slow-mo and has an interview with every athlete during the movie. If a company that new how to put together a good movie had that budget ski movies would be a lot better.
 
in my opinion there is no better production then level one. bc skiing/booters, urban, little park.
 
^^ and im saying fuck what that kid said. i liked the keystone and other park shoots from realtime. i would rather watch that than 3's sw 5's and 7's over and over off bc jumps. soorry but i am so sick of that shit. idea was sick because they did different tricks in the back country. any other movie besides idea, i would rather watch park skiing. yeah call me a park rat
 
hmmm i agree on most of the stuff... i think its rediculous that only competition skiers can make it big.. thats a HUGE problem.. that means that unless you win the xgames and opens (many of em) youll never be able to make a decent living or a living at all...

but about park shoots? why teh hell not like like seeing sick tricks.. maybe not when there repeated that much... but if 4 ridesr have sick tricks on the same jump then why the hell not put it in... that is getting on snowboardings dick...

excuse me if I'm wrong, but so many snowboarders who have the best parts in the best videos (or at least good parts in good videos) make shit all because they don't compete very much. Many snowboarders make good money because they start their own companies, ie Nomis, Foursquare(I belive), Airblaster, or start filming crews like Sandbox(formerly skids), the wildcats, and so many other rider based companies. Now yes there are just as many riders who make enough money to comfortably live off of (chris dufficy, todd richards, shaun white, etc) , but there are so many who live in their parents homes, or share homes with friends, or couch surf until they get their next paycheck. So please don't tell me that the reason skiiers don't spend 8 months or any long length of time filming because they need to ride in contests to make money, that is a poor excuse.

(The same also applies with skateboarding, but I cannot give nearly as many or as effective examples)
 
yeah snowboard and skate movies can be really sweet, but there are plenty of those that are lame as hell too. but overall, skiers could work harder on their films.
 
you hit it right on the head, the quality of snowboarding videos is not based on income. i have plenty of friends who don't make squat from the snowboard industry and put together banger movie segments.

most of the kids who defy the logic of this thread and base it on money are preparing for the corporate world. in their future of money driven morals they lose the soul and bow down to the almighty MAN. i know a couple pro skiers right now who's bodies are beat to shit because of these last two comps and all they wish they were doing was filming bc jumps into pow. however, the almight MAN (i.e. team managers, say, "compete, podium, compete, podium if you want to get paid." unfortunately, the pro skier's eat their commands and live a somewhat happy, but disappointed career.

The music in Realtime was probably the worst set iv ever heard. Nothing went with the skiing and i felt like i was in a club doing X or something.

But thats besides the point of this thread i just had to say it.

Future of money driven morals? what do you pay your bills with? When a hundred ski movies come out every year marketed to a very specific demographic of course there isn't going to be any money in it. There's what, a dozen major comps a year? These comps showcase the brands to thousands more people, who are into skiing but not at the hard core insider super level as you. As for snowboarding, who really cares? Enjoy the movies as they come out since they're "so much better." Almost every am movie has a cast that was there for most of filming. How about supporting these companys instead of movie crews who only shoot the top comp pro's for a weekend?

2. Park shoots are fine. Not when you have 20 riders same tricking everyone, and it makes a 10 minute part of your movie
 
we should wait a few more years before thinking about multi year films. skiing (pro skiers) has/have not yet hit the plateau that would make it a really good, consistent film in regards to the level of riding
 
what makes you say that ? are you saying that there aren't enough consistently awesome skiers to make a dope multi-year film ?!?!?!

if skiiers put a tonne of effort into their filming, we could get there. guys like wiley miller can make super good parts out of strictly bc jumps and a few handrails. wiley dedicates plenty of time to filming. and there have been a few other people who have listed some riders who film mostly. its not that all projects need to be multi year. most snowboard ones are still single year, defective films tried and couldnt swing it.

nobody really puts the effort in to do tricks that are sick. everyone is putting in the effort for competing, and theose competition tricks are getting old in movies. really old. and not just the tricks but the way they are done.
 
the problem is that many ski films simply showcase what the skiers have been up to that season, rather then being an end in and of themselves.
 
Picture This had a ton of hits from the same jumps, it was worst than any ski movie i have seen in that way, but the urban wall rides were dope as fuck, that was progressive, but the way to many shots from the same jumps
 
the filming was really good in Picture This tho, but WAY to many of the same hits for such a short movie
 
100 ski movies come out every year= you losing my respect on your education of reality counting. how many thousands of people were watching the slopestyle at the US OPEN? honestly proabably a couple hundred at best...mostly friends and family of the riders. excluding X, there isn't a crowd over 500 watching the ASPEN OPEN, any ORAGE MASTERS, any SKI TOUR....fact is, all the comps combined (excluding X) don't amount to over 10,000 people....shit each of the top five ski film companies sell over 10,000 copies of their DVDs. 1 DVD= up to 100 viewers...brother you do the math, you will probably come up with some astronomical number equaling 1 billion viewers for ski comps. and don't forget about the ski tour coverage on NBC that shit was as whack as your counting. i have one number in my hand right now, wanna guess what finger it is?
