Ski movie music - where did all the punk/rock/ska/not rap go

After re-watching older ski movies like propaganda, happy dayz, ski movie 3, forward, etc. I noticed how little punk/rock/anything other than hip-hop is now used in ski movies.

do you guys ever think it will come back?

did the tall t kill these music genres in ski movies?

i just miss the days of someone like jon skiing to "fuck authority" by pennywise or critchon's seggy in "forward"

just had a vibe that got me super pumped up to want to go throw down and i feel like the laid back vibe of a lot of rap just doesn't have the same effect

like honestly the closest thing ive seen to this "recently" was like rich fahey's segment in slamina...

is it because it's harder to edit to?

thoughts welcomed

iv totaly notcied this!! i was jus thinking about it when i watched windells videos theres always rap playing. not goona lie it sounds pretty good in videos but do does punk rock and stuff! i think im goona put in some ratatat in my next video if you know who that is. if you dont youtube them!

If you look at the progression of ski movies, they use to be predominantly rock/punk, then hip-hop started to slide in more and more which has pushed out rock/punk music. Hip-hop has given way to rap due to consumer demands.

everyone says that skiing doesnt go well with punk and metal because it doesnt flow well enough but actually its cause most skiers are a bunch of pussys.

so there.

I can't find it, but 4bi9 put out an edit with a Flamenco guitar track to it last year. Super sick.

I'm waiting for some jazz to a park shredding edit.

this is basically what i'm getting at

i just wish someone would have the balls to break the mold every once in a while because not everyone's style is always condusive of rap/hip-hop

and obviously there are exceptions to my statement, i just meant it as a general observation

I'd like to see it, some of my favorite segments have been to punk. We need to start doing edits to some melodic stuff like Tycho, Bonobo, Emancipator, etc...

if you've ever done any editing you'll know that rap songs with a steady beat are the easiest music to work with

maybe it's the editors that fucked up the soundtracks?

I've only ever heard it in SSX: On Tour, or at least thats the only one I can place off the top of my head.

God that was a weird game.

Nimbus has yet to use a hiphop/rap song in a video other that 'What up Fam' by Robust
Kris Ostness's 44 days movie for atomic also contained zero rap.

Haven't seen too many MSP films these days, but Ski Movie 1-3 was full of harder rock, especially for Seth and McGovern. Comparing that to Seth's part in Focused, which was HC shit from beginning to end, edited to Modest Mouse's Dramamine. I loved it, but still... Where has it gone, I ask the same question.

I put Guerrilla Radio by Rage against the machine, i don't if that classifies as rap/rock or just punk ITs a sick song to put a track to

Dude that game was the game of all skier games back in the day. What game do you know of that lets you detach from your bindings in mid-air and call it a trick?

so many hours of my life spent playing this game. after doing a quintuple back flip off the damn i got bored with the insanity.

i like this thread. i could never really get into techno, its just a little wierd. i've always liked punk more, never really knew why its in no edits er movies. Its not like it wouldnt fit the movie or edit. at least i think it fits.

one of the reasons why one of my most favorite movies is Stack Footy

even though it's snowboarding i love the music and everyones happy and having fun.. they have alotta good music in that movie that i like.

a better question is when is someone going to make a prog rock edit? now THAT would be different, yyz + skiing? yes no?

GOSH I WANTED TO POST SHANE'S CLAIM SEGMENT FIRST!

but yeah. Shane's claim segment.

Although I don't find myself listening to rap near as much as I do most other genres, I don't mind it. The whole techno deal with Deadmau5 (obviously? no) isn't bad either. haha

Yeah ski movies need more variety in music. Like a lion's sound track is completely reggae, adn though I'm sure the skiing will be great in the film, the music will probably become repetative after a while.

Pretty much every Rastafaride since like 2001 has been all reggae, so nothing new or innovative there.

Matchstick has had a good deal of not rap in their videos the last few years.

-Modest Mouse

-Wolfmother

-TV on the Radio

-Abma had a "metal" song in the opening seggy for Push I believe

rap is the major genre used in ski videos/edits, but it's not totally dominant

Surprised that nobody posted thishttp://vimeo.com/14328629
If that counts as a ski movieBut yes, I would like to see ski movie soundtracks start to move away from being 100% rap (techno :D )
