SKI MOUNTING

I mount either centered or a little behind center.... I wouldn't mount ahead of center, that could be cool, but personally I wouldn't take the risk.

the numbers mean how many centimeters up or down from the middle they are mounted. so right on the middle line is 0, 2 centimeters back is "-2" and 3 centimeters up is "+3"

what kind of skis do you have? unless you have specific knowledge/preferences, id suggest mounting at the recommended line

you mean mount them yourself??

anyway i dont know much about the pettitors so i'd google site:newschoolers.com + pettitor mount or something like that. im sure there have been several threads with discussion about that on here-- popular ski and people ask where to mount a lot on this site

Haha okay good I was gonna say...

But yeah man search for threads on it and see what sounds good to you. But don't overthink it, it's not a huge deal unless you know your own preferences well. When in doubt, throw em on the recommended line and don't worry about it

where should i mount my bindings? whato does +6 or -1 from core central mean?

Anything with a "+" is forward from the true center of the ski. That is pretty risky, I wouldn't mount them there. Especially if this is your only pair of skis. Anything with a "-" is backward from true center. When in doubt, go with the factory recommended mount. There are up's and down's to all of them. I personally like my skis mounted true center, but I'm sure a lot of people would disagree with that. Depending on the factory recommended mount of the ski, thats most likely the best option for someone who is new to mounting skis. You can find the factory rec on the sidewall or on the topsheet somewhere. Probs by where it says the lengths.

Hope this helps...

Think the original poster might be more confused than before with all this somewhat conflicting answers! lol

You asked what does +6 or -1 from core central means and in the case of many K2 skis, that is the same thing because their "recommended all mountain mounting point" is around 7cm back from core center, so +6cm of the all mountain recommended mark would be -1cm back of core center.

Most people on this forum and most twip manufacturers describe mounting points such as 3cm behind ski center as -3cm. Anytime you are seeing - it is behind either the core or measure ski center. Anytime you see + it is forwards of the recommended "all mountain" line or "free ride" line which is ALWAYS behind the core center. You are never mounting in front of the core center mark with boot center as that would be unstable.

Volkl is like K2 on many of their skis as they have a "all mountain" a "Park/all mountain +3" "park +6" line. The all mountain setting is -6cm back of center, the park/all mountain is -3cm back of center OR +3 cm of all mountain and park is center mount 0cm OR +6cm of all mountain.

The ski manufacturer is saying the same thing by saying +3cm as some would call -3cm as the manufacturer is going 3 cm forward of their all mountain line which others call 3cm back or their center line.

So as a general rule with twin tips, nothing but park and rails keep it close to core or ski center, bit of park and all mountain would be -2cm to -4cm back from center and all mountain with no park around -6cm back from center.

The closer to center mounting the more agile they will be on rails and jumps and the further back from center will improve carving stability outside of the park.

Hope this makes it easier to understand.
