Ski mount wait time

Yeah yeah first-world problems whatever, but waiting for your new skis to get mounted is the worst (and best for anticipation). You have your new pair in hand, felt the flex and those brand-new edges, but still can't ride them. And if you don't have another pair of boots, you cant even ski your old setup. But in the end, it's all worth it.

what was the point of this thread. [tag=288570]@SwitchJib[/tag] and [tag=288802]@Theracistrapist[/tag] are going to rob your local and take ur skis.

I was in a bind last year and had to get some bindings mounted because I didn't have a printer for a jig. I was blow away how long it took. Guy at the counter was like "we'll probably have these done next week". 4 days later and $80 down the hole I finally got my skis back. Needless to say I'll never make that mistake

Dude just bring 20-40 bucks in cash if you want it done ASAP. Pretty much every time the techs mount my shit overnight or same day.

Lol this is the number one advantage of skiing in the midwest. Well we do have shitty snow and shitty weather, we have some crazy good customer service at ski shops. Especially in the smaller places in ohio, I gave my local shop my skis and he charged me very little and I had them back in 35 minutes.

nothing like them saying your boots/bindings aren't up to "industry standard" and trying to sell you a $600 pair of Salomon dad boots. literally had one guy say I shouldn't center mount my skis unless I'm skiing switch 50% or more of the time. I stg they always act like they're some kind of ski wiz who knows whats best for you when they don't

I go to my shop with a 6 pack around 6 or 7pm. Drink one with them as they mount them. Then go home only paying 5 beers for a mount. And i get to supervise so i dont end up with a backwards mount like some of you have ?

I just got some custom skis mounted by a shop, took them 30 mins. It all depends is there’s a tech there. Also never get a shop to mount ur skis nov-early January, ur gonna be waiting 2 weeks cause everyone has new skis to mount.

with gripwalk being the new norm, a lot of last gen bindings are seriously unsafe to ride with newer gripwalk boots. so its not really a surprise that a shop told u that...... blame gripwalk, not the shop techs. they cant legally mount ur shit if the boots/bindings arent compatible. i can promise you that you wouldnt want to ski a boot / binding that doesnt clip in as it should. very dangerous, you'd be ejecting all the time / risking injury

also u kinda sound like the "ski wiz who knows everything" who u despise.

if a shop tech told u ur shit is incompatible, chances are he knows what he's talking about and doesnt want u getting hurt / him getting sued. i highly doubt they were trying to upsell u some boots unless u genuinely needed them in order to mount.

also he's right, true center mounts are fucking stupid 90% of the time.

My gear has always been compatible, think I came off a bit aggressive since I've had serious dbags before who are not nice people. I've definitely had guys trying to upsell saying "overall wear" on the boots is too much after one season and then being condescending if I can't afford it. I know my gear and how I want it, including true center, it's just rarely a smooth experience :/

Going to local shops is cool but evo gives me 10% cash back to use at their stores I already got $150 literally for free just for shopping there it’s pretty hard to beat tbh

Never understood why it takes some shops so long. Worked in a ski shop throughout college and we'd often tell customers to wait around as it only takes ~20 minutes to mount and test a pair of skis. Shops that quote longer than a few days are either understaffed or lazy.

A 6 pack speeds things uo, a knife speeds things up even more when cutting up your charcuterie board for the staff.

A knife could even get your skis mounted faster depending on desperacy

The guy at my shop mounted them in 30 minutes while we chilled in the back room with him. Just gotta find a shop with a homie.

Early season? Good luck if you can get it done by new years. Mid season? Same day mounts. Shops are dead quiet in Febuary.

In my experience, the wait time at ski shops is inversely related to the amount of beer brought to the employees as a tribute.

Alcohol will get this done same day every time. Trust me.

For an extra $12 (6 pack of any beer) the shops around my area will get them done within 2 days. I've had same day mounting a few times as well. Treat your shops well and they'll reciprocate. Same goes for any MTB service you need done

Level9 in Orem did mine in like 4 hours

L9 is the shit. My brother works there, he'll bring in a new set and its pretty much a competition between techs as to who can turn them around the fastest. Usually ends up being a 15 min wait lol. S/O L9 downtown

It really depends on time of year. Right now? Yeah max 48 hours. But in like November and December when the shop regularly has 25+ pairs of skis waiting to be mounted, five days to a week is normal

depends when you drop them off. Friday or Saturday is when they're the busiest and probably have other shit to do before dealing with your skis. If you can go in midweek they can probably get to your skis a lot faster.

Just grab a drill put in some holes and hope for the best

If you drill enough holes chances are the bindings will match with at least a few of them

Once Presidents day arrives you shouldn't give any shop your business if they can't take care of your skis same day.

Thanksgiving - MLK you have to wait or have a $20 bill to tip them these places are understaffed and have fuckloads of skis in front of yours.

Dropping in again to reiterate PIZZA.

We had so much beer in our shop that we literally couldn't fit anymore in our stash spot.

PIZZA is so good to offer up. Ski techs fucking love getting food and ski techs love PIZZA

Bozo shops. Most places I’ve been to if you drop em off during the day they’re good to go in the morning… I had one shop in UT do them right before they closed homie even came and dropped them off later that night. Most key mount I’ve had done lol.

Insane that it takes shops any time to do this. If you have the jig its a very very quick job
