Ski magazines and their distribution

I think most of us who are subscribers to ski magazines would agree that some of our mags have definite distribution problems. I can forgive Freeskier because they're independent, and might not have access to the same resources as magazines owned by media conglomerates; but that said, Powder (Primedia) doesn't seem to have the best batting record, and even Freeze (Transworld) was inconsistent in its time.

So to anyone who knows- what's the deal? I'm asking because I'm doing a little test. I renewed or ordered subscriptions to Freeskier, Powder, SBC Skier and Transworld Snowboarding on the same day two weeks ago. TWS arrived today- let's see how long it takes the rest.
 
I saw one at cherry cherry pow pow in jindi an augest but i would have just got depressed if i saw it im sydney with ass shithouse season this year.
 
Magazines generally use third-pary distribution houses, and some are better than others. Powder and Freeze were both formerly handled by Neodata, and they were a nightmare, so bad that we canned them and hired a different company. It has gotten better, but certainly wasn't a seamless transition.

If you're a powder subscriber and aren't getting your issues, e-mail powder@palmcoastd.com with all your info and they should take care of the problem. There is probably a similar e-mail for Freeskier readers, which would most likely be found on their masthead (where the editors names, etc are listed).

You are right frequency is the best mag. I ski and I even subscribe. Check out www.theskijournal.com , the creators of frequency are putting out a ski mag this jan. My subscription has been sent in.
 
anyone read the thing in this months freeskier that said that snowboarder mag, and freeskiier were joining forces? that will probably help
 
Thanks Powder, Winter and Grant for replying. I thought I'd give you an update: Received my second TWS about a week ago, and bought a copy of the Snowboard Journal in a bookstore. Still no sign of any ski mags. If media were the reason I skied, I might be on a snowboard by now.
 
well i dunno bout u guys but my situation seems pretty good. Free powder and freeskier magazines. I dunno how i got the free powder but they just started showing up one day but the free freeskier i just signed up for. Pretty sweet deal if u ask me.

This thread is sooooo October but I thought I'd bring it up again just to say that one Freeskier has finally come through - still no sign yet of SBC or Powder.

Oh, and Transworld sent me a hat. I didn't even know I got a hat with my subscription!
 
I've been getting my Freeskiers faily consistant.

However, I never got the monthly issue for the month that the buyers guide came.
 
I've subscribed to Powder for a good 6 yrs and never missed an issue...you can't mark on a calander the exact day it'll come in, but its usually a week or 2 before the given issue's month. It's also such a sweet sweet treat when it comes in. Bring back the Captin Powder Comic!!!!
 
i love freeskier with all my heart. but my subscription is so f'ed up. i subscribed durin the season with a vip thing. they give out free subscriptions to people who work at places that sell their mag. but i renewed and still have yet to recieve my last issue. i should have gotten it months ago
