Im 170 cm tall and cosidering buying new skis (Line Maverick) and was considering what length should I get (either 170 or 180). What is considered the norm on ski lengths.

if you are going to grow AT ALL go for the 180. 180 really isn't too much ski anyway.

it depends on how tall you are. if your around 5'6 get 170. but if your more 5'9 get 180. yea but everybody alse said if your growing get 180.

Thats the way I live my life: I grip it and I rip it.

ya for your height as of now I'd say the 170 should work for you...but you will proly want to upgrade to the bigger size if you plan on growing much more

the majority of ski companies design skis based off of weight, hight is a minor factor in ski length

^^ thanks chris and gregg... weight is more important because it affects how your ski flex and how much pressure you are putting on the middle... why would your height affect it?? and yeah, if you are just cruising you would get a longer ski, if you were hitting lots of bumps or park you wouldn't necessarily want the longer ski

Height, for most of us, is a reliable guide, since the average person balances height and weight. Most people in my height range (6'-6'5) are around 185-210 lbs. Most small peeps are light, etc.

That doesn't work for everyone, but for your first pair of skis, it's fairly reliable.

well im 19 and i like to ride 161's. Maybe because i do aggressive inline in the summers. but i just fint 161's sooooooo much better

Word to big bird

If it makes you happy, go for it (-: I actually spend the offseason freeskating on a pair of Salomon FSK Deflectors, so I know the feeling of wanting your skis to match your skates.
