Ski Jumping? Yeah, no thanks.

This has to be the biggest "Oh Shit!" moment caught on video, right? Seriously though, fuck that, want nothing to do with it. Ever.

Damn. Their reactions told the story the best. There was a thread a few weeks back showing tons of these type of falls. Some of them death videos for sure

I know this sounds douchey but that didn't really look that bad at all besides the initial impact/whiplash. Pretty smooth run-out to slide down.

I'd much rather do that than fall of a cliff the wrong way or knuckle/over shoot a park jump that's 60 ft or bigger.

well, that's the big trade off (that i totally wouldn't be down for) with freeriding. sure, this fall isnt on a steep slope that will send you tomoahawking, possibly into rocks or a cliff, but in freeride skiing your wing of a ski will never tug you towards the ground even faster than you were already headed there

i agree OP, fuck that, no thanks

Yea but the initial impact was really, really hard. Especially traveling at that speed. Pretty gnarly.

Also I'm not exactly sure how those skis release, but the leverage forces of 260 cm skis jamming into the ground like that will snap your legs like twigs.

bull fucking shit. there is no way knuckling a 60 fter is half as bad as that video. you did watch the video, didnt you?

lol....your silly. Watch the video again. Looks at how high he bounces when he hits the snow. That was a HUGE impact!! That's got brain injury written all over it...hopefully not.

Based on your intelligence you are yet to hit a 60ft+ jump. Yes, it might not look THAT bad, but would you jump off a car going 100km/h into a slope? Just want to give you a better point of view. PS. Morgenstern is in critical condition, though it's not life threatening.

I read he was knocked out but came too pretty quickly, glad he's not in a life threatening position, hope he recovers 100%. Dude has huge balls.

serious question: how many of these guys die in a given year...?

they consistently have the most brutal bails i've ever seen, bar-none

people make it sound like deaths have been on the rise for freeskiing in the past decade or so (more backcountry enthusiasts, etc.)... but in this discipline, with the heavy forces involved, is it expected that a yearly fatality or two is a regular occurrence...?

I have been a ski jumper for 15 years and in that time I have heard of ONE ski jumping related death. This crash was just fucked because it was on one of the biggest hills in the world and his tip didn't go straight down and allow him to flip over.

crashes like this don't happen that often. I haven't seen anyone "tip in" in a world cup competition in a really long time. like 5 years maybe

Doesn't look fun. I'd like to it once and fly if I could actually do it and knew I wouldn't die. Def would not want to fall going that fast with those things attached to my feet

in other words: "a bunch of people told me how fucking stupid i am, and, wanting to not seem like such a moron, decided to tell everyone i changed my mind"

In Lake Placid they do it on Astro turf in the summer wearing leather moto racing suits. When those guys fall they don't get back up easily shit is gnarly.

Listen guy from Boston who's apparently a fucking god. I've landed 100% flat on an 80 foot jump without injury. It just hurt like shit for a minute. Not even close to the scale of a fall as these guys take. Don't try to play it down, that looked horrible.

is there even a din setting on these?

Its not on astro turf its just strands of plastic. Lots of them.

Looks like this

and the suits are actually just foam and fabric.

So its not possible to watch something, make an impulsive statement, and then watch it a couple of other times and adjust that statement? Tell me more about how perfect you are.

Man, how quickly you NS children jump down peoples throats the second you have an opening. Y'all can suck mah big dick!

Ski jumping is the stupidest discipline of skiing.

Just like hot dogging, it's a part of skiing history but.... let's leave it there.
