Ski Jumping vs NS freestyle

So I was watching Top Gear last night and it was the Winter Olympic special which involved a ski jump.

They listed the distance and such, but it got me wondering whether the jumps of say JOSS were not the same size-ish and whether the NS skiers must be going the same distance as the ski jumpers.

Anyone agree?
 
top level ski jumpers usually go around 100m i think, roughly 300ft, so short answer is no. they use similar shaped jumps with super steep landings, hit them at around 100km an hour, but use really long, really wide skis to catch the wind and take them further. since nsers are doing tricks and whatnot they don't have the same distance capability
 
shitcakes didn't realise anyone had been that big. imagine the amount of time in the air, it'd be the best feeling ever

the takeoff on those jumps aren't even flat, they are actually downhill. i guess you could throw tricks, but then you wouldn't be going 239 meters!

And Janne Ahonen jumped 240 meters, but he fell and hurt his back.
 
you might be able to design a hill that you could go 400-500 ft on, and do tricks. kinda like a huge step up that you over shoot. the catch is that ski jumping hills are built wit equipment in the summer. the dirt work is the same shape as the hill. they jump on plastic mats durring the summer months on a lot of hills. the JOSS jump is a true table, it would be too crazy to make a 400 ft true table(ie. mike wilson) the trick is to never be more than 15-20 ft off the ground. when the hell is someone going to build it?
 
those jumps are prettty crazy. The best thing to watch is the crashes on youtube. Those guys have to be perfectly symmetrical or else they just fly out of control like an airplane that just lost a wing
