i'm an aussie and i'll be doin a season at lake louise this 03/04 season, and to broarded my job opportunities here i'd like to do an instructors course, like a level 1 or level 2 course..

can some 1 point me in the right direction to companies that give u an internation instruction recognition so i can maybe instruct back home for a season too?

just a thought.. i'm a bartender and thats what i plan to be in banff but still i'd like to have a qualification.

Take your level 1 CSCF (coaching) its super easy and then take ur level 2 CSIA (instruncting) no need to take ur level 1 CSIA if u have ur level 1 CSCF. you'll make around 14/hour at banff with those certifications. it'll cost u about 800 canadian to take the two courses but at the end of the year most canadian ski places (at least in ontario) will reimburse you the cost of taking the course. if not a 50% reimbursement.

on a similar note, does anyone know is PSIA certs can carry into CSIA? I am thinking of heading out towards whisler and would like to teach there (if they need instructors), but it would suck if all my time and money in PSIA was wasted and I went back to being an uncertified instructor. Do the Canadian areas at least acknowledge PSIA certs?

 
you need to be a level 3 PSIA usually to get recoginition in Candaa because I believe that is the ISIA level. If you have your PSIA level 2 u might be able to skip the level 1 CSIA but I'm not to sure. go to www.snowpro.com and ask them your question.

how old do you have to be to be an instructor? and my friend who was an instructor told me that teaching little kids suck because he had to hold there hand when they went poop.

 
depends where u work, what level u have, ur experience and what u request to teach. theacing adults is best if ur worried about little kids

if ur there for a single season it just costs u mad cash. u could come and spend a season and return home with no cash, but thats the same for everyone who leaves to go and work out of their country for only a year to ski.

here in BC u gotta be 16 to take your level 1 and 17 to take your level 2. and i taught kids all last season and it really wasnt bad, never had to go take a shit with them either hahaha

 
I got my level 2 when I was 17 and I got my feestyle 1. teaching freestyle is good, the only problem is that rich kids that I taught reminded me that they pay my salary.

you guys already have a freestyle division? I know I have heard rumors about a freestyle division coming to PSIA (East at least), but I haven't heard anything concrete.

I wish we (PSIA-E) still had more loose criteria, around here you have to be at least 18 to go for Level 2. I have already passed the skiing portion of my Level 3, so hopefully this season I'll fully have Level 3, and can pursue the ISIA cert that you were talking about.

 
last year was the second year of our freestyle cert in Canada. We've always had freestyle certs but this one was different. it had better publicity and all sorts of newschool stuff.

i'd return for another season... for sure..

might try and make a seasonal job out of it..

for now i'll keep my 'on snow' time for playing around in the park and on the mountain, not looking after kids..

my money making time for in the bar...

but would be great experience to get a level 1 or 2 or something.

getting the level is a good experience, but better to work in the bar at night. in big white the bar tenders get more numbers than the customers.
