Ski industry - internships winter 09

Anyone know how to get connected with a winter internship in the ski industry (powder mag, freeskier, msp, backcountry, etc). Something to at least get my foot in the door...

- marketing

- vid editing/journalism

Something in the boulder area would be sweet. Anyway, just thought I'd see if people have any hookups on here..

Thanks!

I believe i saw a thread from Josh Berman (JoshB ?) awhile ago asking for a summer intern, the position was unpaid but i'm sure its invaluable. PM him about it, you have nothing to lose. additionally i think he was in the boulder/denver area

Don't let these jerks get you down. What do they know? :-)

Internships really depend on your location. If you can't land an internship, that doesn't mean you can't "work" in the ski industry. Start a blog here on NS or elsewhere (though NS is a great place to start a blog) and write about skiing. Take the time to craft what you feel are interesting pieces, put them out there, and learn from your experiences. If nothing more, it'll create some samples you can give to prospective internship businesses.
Good Luck and if you have any more questions, don't hesitate to PM me.

haha I was in a really bitter mood this morning, and really didn't finish or elaborate on my post. Sorry to seem like such a downer. Just trying to be realistic about it. I would highly recommend you put together a demo-reel of some of your better work if you are seriously considering a future in editing. Any sort of portfolio (demo reel/collection of your best writing/any past marketing work) is going to be helpful for anything you mentioned you were trying to get into. As Rogge mentioned a blog would be a great way to start forming a portfolio if you don't have much past experience.

If your in boulder theres a chance your going to cu and one of the best ways to get your foot in the door of the ski industry is to try to be a boulder freeride director, but you can't go for that until next year and if you don't go to cu this post is absolutely useless.

yeah like this winter/spring...i figured i was a bit late, will probably end up just working a normal job, but i thought it was worth a try to see if people had ideas or knew of pple in the boulder area looking for intern-like help

this thread is responsible for everything.https://newschoolers.com/web/forums/readthread/thread_id/351149/

1. Stay vigilant (find the job that looks perfect to you.

2. learn all you can (yeah, i'm fucking useless)

3. stay postive, always be stoked

4. do everything you can while you're working and hope it leads to where you want to do it.

5. comitments can suck, understand the sacrifices that need to be made.

6. have fun.

thanks for the advice! currently talking to people at skiing mag...fingers crossed somethin good happens...
