Ski in the UK?

Don't bother.

The only 'parks' we have are indoors and they are relatively small. Boxes and rails aren't too bad but the jumps are 6-12ft at best.

 
In scotland we have the most snow we have ever had right now. The mountains are getting dumped in, Pretty insane.
 
Most universities will have ski societies which will run weekly trips to an Indoor Slope or dryslope, where there is a small park, they will then run 2 trips abroad a year (1 at christmas and 1 at easter) and then maybe 1 trip to Scotland during the year
 
when in the Uk for winter I ski indoors, dryslope and the UK mountains

Have a look at indoor slopes - Sno!zone, Snowfactor, Chillfactore

Dry slopes- Bearsden Dry slope, Bella houstan dry slope, Halifax

Mountains - Genshee, Nevis Range, Glencoe, The lecht , Cairngorm
 
Thx for the info. Which is the closest park (not something huge) out of the UK. Is it expensive to go there for some days? And if there are any students here is it possible to go to a ski trip while studying? Is the work too much?
 
closest real parks are all in Europe, It doesnt cost that much have a look at the likes of hintertux, Les du alps.

A lot of the Universities have ski and snowboard clubs that organise trips as well as training sessions at the dry slopes and indoor slopes. the indoor slopes have freestyle features out every thursday and friday night.

Have a look at BUSC thats the governing body for the University competition circuits in the UK. It gets pretty wild.
 
The work will most likely not be too much, unless you are extraordinarily devoted to your Uni work. When I lived in Sheffield, I was skiing 1-2 times a week, dryslope or indoor. However the dryslope in Sheffield is now closed.

If you're really in to skiing, I would probably consider studying in Austria or France instead. Don't know much about France, but Austria has Innsbruck and Salzburg, two Uni cities pretty much right in the middle of the mountains. I would recommend Innsbruck, you can get out of class, and then be shredding 30 min later.

Feel free to ask any questions regarding Innsbruck or Sheffield, I have pretty extensive knowledge on both of them.
 
Yea i checked most of the stuff u sent me. The indoor slopes seem mostly jibs but the dryslopes looked like there were some nice kickers.

I saw in an edit something Like an indoor slope but it ended up with a kicker and a pool with soft stuff in it after the kicker

Where ever you end up studying make sure you go to BUDS - its a massive inter university ski competition/piss-up in Edinburgh. It's crazy. It hurts.
 
Most of my friends are in ski club, unfortunately, they see it as an excuse to behave as vandals in the alps along with most other uni cunts.

Why can't we just have fun and ski rather than break shit and start fights?

 
I agree with what was said about the majority of uni snowsports club members but as long as you dont fall into that category its pretty easy to get along with the 10% who acctually give a shot about skiing and you get to know the others who aren't cunts from the other unis. A little biased being from and having studied in scotland but for the biggest choice on skiing you do, go to a scottish uni. Like english uni clubs there are indoor and dryslope sessions and trips to the alps you also have to choice to ride up north in scotland where although the "resorts" are small there is always a good day to be had and if you're keen there is endless potential for touring and some pretty gnar ski mountaineering. Its easy to balance the drinking that comes with a uni club and doing a reasonable amount of skiing.
 
Buried T bar at Glencoe. Bear in mind this is wind loaded and not vertical fallen pow like most of our ski mountains would like to make you believe, but still impressive none the less. With luck there will be skiing through to May-June again.

Yeah BUDS is insane. Bonus if you got to a Scottish uni is SUDS a week or 2 before which is slightly less crazy (but only just). Cracking time can be had. The trips to the Alps that are down are usually pretty good too, especially if other uni's are in the same resort as you are.

Then there is the snow BUSC championships later in the season.

The Scottish mountains are off the chain at the moment, so much snow. Slightly gutted I had to move down to Wales so can't really go right now, looking to roadtrip home for a long weekend in a few weeks as my Easter break isn't until the end of April :/

False. 100% of the serious side (about six or seven people, enough) of Sheffield University Ski Club are some of the best and nicest people I've ever met. The other 1000 are just there to bring the money in.
 
Sheffski were unbelievably nice to me when I lived in Sheffield, really made a big difference in my stay. I have nothing but extremely positive things to say about Uni ski clubs.
 
For sure its a 1% do 99% of the skiing in the uk uni scene and the 99% pay for it. But for sure the people you meet (in general) will be sound amd thats because the people you will see regulsrly are the ones who take it seriously and the other all just sign up and go on the big trips which ends up paying for everything else. Blackie's original comment has been taken a bit out of context but the meaning was more don't expect everybody in a uni club to be sound. There a plenty of jumped up pricks who see skiing as a status symbol.
 
Scottish skiing is.. Very different to anywhere else, the conditions are pretty interesting. Im from scotland and i can honestly say i go skiing abroad more than at our local mountains
