Ski Ideas

Yo, what is up shredders! Jay from Happy Goat skis and here at Happy Goat Skis we've been coming up with new ideas on ski designs and setup. We've been experimenting with these the last 5 years of different skis and came up finally with my favorite the "Midwest Stick". Which is set to release next season. Now I was wondering what is it that you guys want to see in skis I created this company based solely on that there was not a ski out there to fit my needs and the skiing conditions here in the midwest. I was wondering if you guys have any input on this it can be anything you don't like about your skis or what you do like. Let me know your guys input! Shred on!

Jay

Plus are skis are nothing remotely close to any other ski on the market completely different feeling while skiing from what 36 testers have told me personally.

Could you give some detail on how "happy goat skis" are better than the hundreds of other garage started ski company's?

Never said were better I don't believe in competitions in this business only drives prices up and quality down. I own 3 other businesses and this is more of a hobby I do with any free time I get most of the handy-work and labor is done by my co-owner Dan. It's not in a "garage" my company is in a warehouse in southwest Ohio. I've been building my own skis for the last 17 years and with my ski buddies for 5 now. Selling my skis and making money is not my main goal my main goal is to just have skis that my friends and family enjoy along with some of the public. If I sell 1 ski in a year to a happy customer that is all that matters in my opinion so I'm not trying to out beat or stand out above the rest cause these skis are custom made and a lot of time and effort goes into one.

Thanks, Jay

Don't leave the east coast out of the equation, good market out here for skis and I sometimes can't find the right ski for the job. We get decent pow so about a 95mm to 100mm is probably your best bet, but that's my opinion and what I have seen here. Some people tend to enjoy thinner skis but not me personally. As long as your graphics don't look like Volkl and rossignol, you'll be fine. Make those skis noticeable dude. Keep shredding

TBK all over again?

I'm still waiting for them to release their skis! But no on the serious note my friends and I have been making skis for awhile now just for fun we want to stay small and local but give a few that are only interested in trying out our skis so we can improve our products. Shred on jibber Johnny boy.

Varian, yeahhhhhh.

I don't know if it is possible but I think it would be sick to have a ski built similar to a water ski or surf board that is built to cut through crud and concrete. I rarely see skis built for shitty conditions, but I deal with a lot of the cascade concrete and Id like to see something that lets me shred off piste on those really crusty days

Main reason I started building my own skis is for that same reason we've taken a lot into consideration and built it for my conditions I will continue to expirement with other materials and so on thanks for your feedback!

We take our skis down while long boarding that's how much I trust 'em!!!!!!

Make some skis that are shorter! They don't have to be much different than the others but as a girl that's 5'2 I don't really enjoy skiing on 178s. A lot of park skis are super long! It'd be good for you to have some variety in heights.

Also definitely agree with the east coast comment

What size were you thinking 155? Or even shorter than that?

Rocker camber rocker and stiff.

I think soft tip rocker stiff camber soft tail rocker would be cool also for Midwest 100mm underfoot would be best for all conditions IMO

We do but we haven't posted anything like that will do probably when we start having inventory.

Thanks for the support! Jay.

I personally wouldn't mind a softer ski - maybe something like 4-6-5 flex. Something for just messing around on slushy days.

Use the thickest edge you can possibly get your hands on.

^ this this this. If you are making skis for the Midwest they gotta have thicc edged since most of the time we're slamming our skis on rails hundreds of times a day.

I feel like there are tons of park skis available in the 150-160 range...

but standing at 6'6" I have yet to find a park ski that is as long as I'd like

What is your size? I've built a ski for my 6'7 friend before.

Thanks for contacting us, Jay

I have skis ranging from 178-188.

I wish I could find a fully symmetrical twin that is

Gotcha were planning on making all kinds of size options and for sure not at custom built prices.

Do you guys have a website or anything up yet?

Anything between 90-100 underfoot, nose rocker with very slight rocker in the tail, camber underfoot, thick 2.5- 3.0 edges, cap/sandwich sidewall, slight top and tail taper and a either maple/aspen core or a poplar/bamboo or straight bamboo core

I feel like you read my mind.

What if it had a medium sized base (90m) but really small tips and tails (105) so it'd have stability but also low swing weight. Just an idea though. No matter what make it light.

Make a ski that's 186-189 cm, 93-98ish underfoot, camber or a bit of rocker in the tips and tails with camber underfoot, 24-26 m radius, almost symmetrical but not quite, not too stiff, but just stiff enough that the tips won't be bouncing all over the place when you're going mach potato down icy groomers.

Then sell it in Canadian $$.

My ideal do everything east coast ski.

a soft park/all mountain ski in the 100-108 underfoot range would be sick. Something similar to the arv 106 or kartel 108. Personally I don't have the money to buy a whole quiver of skis so it would be awesome to be able to take a ski in some pow and still have it rip in the park.

Where trying to make skis as cheap but as durable and efficient as we can here at Happy Goat Skis. Always being under budget is something we strive for as a company because we want our customers not only get benefits of our skis but also to understand that more expensive materials is not always the best option since I do have experience with these our skis will be relatively cheaper than more custom made skis however will have great durability as we are still testing out our skis across the United States right now. Thanks for the support.
