Ski Games

that is incredible...you're a genius. one thing that wont really matter but i noticed, i think the lighting is messed up, the shadow is brighter than its surroundings. still, thats amazing!

Now I am excited...if you need any help, I have mapped and modeled for half life and counter strike and such, I could help with the levels and skiers, depending on what programs you are using to make them.

yeah, lighting is a tricky thing, i still havent bothered to learn it properly. but those were just a couple of omnilights and a spotlight i threw in. The game will use global lighting

^^yea its just testing the physics of the game.. now if he can make it so he can have control of the character with the physics involved he's set.. I'm soo excited.

Mauii,

don't know if this has been said already, but you should try and get some voice samples from doing a 100-ft kink rail and just yelling and shouting and of course, when you bail hard you scream hard,it would be cool to hear the agony. I always enjoy watching bails in movies, maybe i'm the onlyone, but if you could.mauii, then try sometimes.

alright I was wondering which 3D design program you guys think is best.. I realize it's gonna take awhile for me to get good on them but looking at these hardcore rails makes me wanna get into it.. also if you kno of any tutorials/scripts that are good at teaching let me know.

I like Lightwave, mauii likes 3D studio max. Just do a google search for 'Beginner Lightwave Tutorials' and 'Beginner 3D Studio Tutorials' or something like that and see which ones look easier to follow.

Haha, that piece of cardboard ate shit.

But seriously, I am so impressed with the work you have been doing.

Just remember, keep the game very basic at first, don't go all nuts with trying to create amazing features.

You can always release new versions on top of it, but I really believe a basic, easy to use game (DNA spin) is better with tons of features that was a poorly made game (Madd Trix).

dude, that board physics test is making me drool.,.... this is going to be the best shit ever......

anyway..... I'm currently in NYC and can't get on the net with my laptop (damnit) but i'm making a couple of park layouts in AutoCAD..... It's gonna have to wait till Tues for teh upload though...

Just wondering, do you want me to load it up in AutoCAD format, or just to screenshot a couple of .JPG's?

And one other question..... can you create a loop in this game? cause i threw one into one plan.....

What programs do you use to play .avi files? I'm using Divx, but when I play the physics test it plays upside down and the colors are all weird.

Mauii, good job, keep on. id like sk a few questions? is that software (3d studio max), really expensive, and those it require a lot of commitment to learn how to use it? i mean basically(other persons can aswer...), is it worth buying cause this thing kinda got me hyped about creating video games...

pats idea is really sick. have it so you can set tricks to certain keys after you've done them so many time on the tramp. I've got wood from that video. p.s. release things in small packages. like a rail level. because as a whole this is gonna take you a long time.

-Mike

Dude I was fine before you tried to turn me into a cake - me after ralphing after being antiqued

Need2Ski69: Max can read autocad files, and i also have autocad, so you can send me those no problem.

canadianskigod: 3D max takes a bit of learning to get a hang of, but its great once you do. At first, all you can do is make premade shapes likes speres and cubes, and you wonder how its all done, A few good tutorials and books should get you there. Iv been using max since about 4 years ago, when i first used it to make levels for motocross madness. Max will cost you about $2000, maybe less if your a student, but keep in mind that it is not all you need to make games and such, it is modeling/animation software. Im sure you can find someone who has it or a place you can get it for free, because 2 grand is a bit steep. Im just happy my dad got it for me.

Also, on the game, There is a 60-70 percent chance of this all working out, so , in the unfortunate event that everything doesnt pull through, dont kill me!! Id rather not release anything than a low quality, substandard game.

good idea mike. My first goal is to make a minigame where you grind that urban rail in the video. Then a bit more, maybe a jump or 2, then ill put it all together when im done. Dont worry, you'll get to play some of the stuff within forseeable time :D

mauii... in case of it failing.. keep everythign around, I know we have enough smart people here taht we could piece it together

most of you seem to have prety good systems, that givs me a lot to work with!

my system, the one things will be tested on primarily is:

t-bird 1.3ghz

512mb ram

ge-force 3 64mb

DSL

Most are prety comparable, i think ill set minimum system goals at around

300-500mhz

64mb ram

16mb video with openGL

here is my input...

you should be able to lock onto rails

you should be able to do real tricks, not just spining, and flipping and seeing what you can do, but actually making ski trick like in the Tony Hawk games, or making you be able to control yourself in the air.

It looks sweet. DO IT!!!

'save the trees, wipe your ass with an owl!'

'how many snowboarders does it take to screw in a lightbulb?.......10, 1 to do it, 9 to say that they can do that.'

i disagree, i like the amped format where you combine spinning and flipping to pull off a certain trick and you have control over every aspect...i hate it when you gotta puch a preprogrammed button combination to pull off a certain trick, that would mean you couldnt turn a rodeo 5 into a rodeo 7 or anything

Time for me to call in one of those favours! I need a little hep

I need someone to model me a head for my skier, because im retarted and can't make one that looks right. Thanks A LOT to anyone who can do this for me. I dont need a super detailed/ lifelike model, just a low poly/semi low polygon model that i can use. It can either be in .3ds or .max

thanks!

make lots of sick smooth stuff...that like cool...make lots of rails...and like cool rail where you have to press a button to lock into...not like DNAspin where you just land on it and anything goes
