SKI FILMS

I watched most of the ski films for this year...I must say I am very let down. The plehouse film is awful, super dissapointed in those guys cause I know they have more in them. What's with them biting the old Robot Food Films? Gay!

Show and Prove is actually really good, Tanner killed it.

The Absinthe movie is sick. But there we no skiers.

i didn't see any of the movies and i am still disapointed with skiers, they could be so much better.

absinthe? jet pack follow cams make's me melt.

i ordered ski porn, quick, strange folk, and jibopoly... soon LSS

but strange folk was amazing, and i really liked ski porn

I'm sorry to hear about skimatic! It was pretty much the only movie I

thought had much potential to be a great movie. I guess I'll try to

stay optimistic

The riding in ski porn should be incredible though, I'm excited for that. My hopes and expectations are high for Tanner in show and prove, so I'm stoked as hell for that too

while we're on the subject ski movies, I posted in this thread a couple of minutes ago:

what are your thoughts?

only two movies ive seen this year are god save the robots and ski porn. I think everyone has heard about god save the robots preformance so ill leave it out of my two sense. Ski Porn has moments of brialliance in Andy's part and Andreas part. The follow cams in adreas part are pretty epic and capture the speed at which he is doing this manevuers. As with andy's part, he steps it up again with more switch in the pow. I was also actually a big fan of sammy's part just because it had some variety to what he was doing. Switch landings into pow, some pretty solid urban switch ups and the uprail shots towards the end got my heart going. Jp's part is pretty cool, ill let you see it for yourself but im a big fan of the sound editing in it. Besides that though, its pretty stale as people have stated. Same old formula and the intro couldn't get anymore played out. But yeah, You'll say wow in the right parts and in the end, be left wondering why PBP hasn't tried to get off the beatin' track that they've been on the past few years. Granted people continue to buy their movies because everyone knows they'll please, but everyone desperatley wants to see something fresh and new and creative that has never been done in a ski film.

corduroy - sucked, really bad.

skimatic - sucked. had glimmers of hope throughout the movie, but then they didn't follow through.

ski porn - only saw bits and pieces of it, but it is what it is. a bunch of senseless high profile ski shots.

show and prove - really good. it had a better grasp on what skiing is and why we do it. the shane anderson narration was a little over the top brah, shaka, dood!! but i like what tanner is doing by trying to portray something a little different. and cr johnsons top gun fetish is lame.

but all the snowboard movies are tip top. especially more, enscramble and surprisingly the mack dawg movie, follow me around, was super good.

it will only be a matter of time folks. for those of you who know, you already know. for those who don't, well then you are in for a big suprize in about 1 year.

All of the ski movies I've seen so far sucked except for Show and Prove. I guess Skimatic had moments where I was enjoying it...I suggest that everyone should seriously watch Patchwork Patterns though. This is one of the funnest movies I've ever seen and everything is so original.

finally some "hate" on skimatic, i mean, plehouse is my favourite, i preordered whiteshine last year and ski matic this year, and my initial thoughts on skimatic were .. wtf. I loved whiteshine, as it is still my favourite movie to date, and i thought skimatic could have done better.. i wasnt into the whole theme of it, and i just kept comparing it to whiteshine, and whiteshine always won. Ive watched it over and over and still its not what it could have been, and im not a fan at all of j. bibbs appareal, the condom hat, umbrella, open jacket in the pow pow, ..

and all the threads in SG all love the movie, so im trying to see the good in it, but its not working, so im still kinda confused about it..

skimatic was terrible. they've lost their niche and are biting too hard on other companies now.

the one budapest segment (or where ever it was), had potential, but they didn't follow through.

Not to be a dick but I think Blakes promo video is better than most of the ski films out this year. I am seeing Anomoly tonight, I am sure it's good.

I like TGR, but then again, I am old and out of the loop as to what is cool.

Agreed. I really like what Blake is doing...he's one of those guys that makes me want to go skiing again.

check out long story short I went to the premiere and the movie is pretty unique.  It mostly features the segments in pairs or trios and in between the riders they have the craziest contraptions going on!  Compared to other movies I've seen parts of, ski porn, the soundtrack is a ton better and the movie isn't like any you've ever seen, there is only one place where you see park skiing and that's at the keystone set up they had.  So many awesome shots with beutiful and eye catching back rounds it's hard to remember a specific shot.  Level One has got their shit down and has made a movie with skiing in the most creative places, it has gotten me stoked on skiing once again and I'm pumped for the upcoming season.

i went to the long story short premiere tonight aswell and i was actually quite bummed on it. the whole movie was just the same over and over. basically the same back country jumps and rails.

over all it seems like they spent more time building the crazy contraption then editing the movie.

it could have been heaps better..

yeah i wasn't too impressed with lss. from what every body was saying through the season, i was expecting more. i mean it is good, but it wasnt' that good. and it just didn't get me pumped. the music was just too mellow

i trust your opinion.

and i highly doubt josh berman is capable of pulling the ski industry out of its pathetic slump of film making.

no one seems to be too syched on ski films this year and they arent impressing me much either, but.....

I want to know where you want to see ski film go? Like what do you want to see? Where are these companies going wrong besides the played out formula of rider segments? Why does everything seem likes its been done twice and then three times more?......etc

Personally i feel like action sports movies are to broad. They try to capture everything that happened throughout the season and get a peice of it it all. Movie yearbooks have their place but it shouldn't be something every company tries to pursue. Instead i would like to see film makers be more specific at where they point their lense. I think they should pick something smaller and do that well.

good choice. also check out patchwork patterns. mack dawg was surprisingly good. and lucky number slevin. and kiss kiss bang bang. and science of sleep. and ski movies suck.

Got to back up Blake. Mack Dawg's Follow me around was pretty cool...People was OK but not as good as the Neoproto stuff they did before. And as everyone has said More is great...I also liked the Vans movie that was free in a couple of magazines...Blanking on the name right now...cool concept using still pictures and only a little bit of moving footage...

i don't watch or buy ski movies. i don't wear ski brands. i don't even like skiing. i'm just a snowboarder on two planks.

I liked ski matic. I liked show & prove although I think the narrating was kinda over done, I still like what Tanner is trying to do, I liked ski porn just for the skiing though, I like Eric Pollard in Push although the rest got kinda boring I thought cause it was all the same people, everyone else got injured. LSS was sick, Photoplay was pretty good as well. I dunno nothing was absolutly amazing but I don't realyl think anything sucked either
