That is the first week back in school. You shouldn't be busy yet. Costs are still being nailed down, but price will be VERY reasonable.

Sounds super awesome. Pretty glad I'm helping throw this thing. Details to come shortly...the wait'll be worth it. Age may be an issue, just to let you little groms know.

Okay, so listen up hosers. As witnessed by 45 people last year (and numerous others in years before), this is not an opportunity to be missed. This will be the best road trip you'll ever be on. Words are not enough to describe the crazy randomness that this sort of trip involves. From the moving dance club, to the late night gt racing, to the wicked back side skiing, nothing could prepare you for what might occur over this poutine-filled weekend.

Being the first weekend back from Christmas holidays, there is no school work to be done, and therefor no excuses will be accepted.

Parc Regional Val D'Irene is a killer little mountain located in the Gaspe snowbelt with nice steeps, wicked glades, and a backside with no lift -- just an old school bus with a friendly, smoking, local at the wheel. The lifts start when someone shows up in the morning, and they close early enough so that we can nap, host soccer tournaments, or prepare romantic dinners for 6.

We will need all of your help to make sure this email gets to all of those two plankers and snosurfers out there that know how to party hard.

Get your deposits in early to ensure your spot on the coveted Bus #1 and to make sure two buses do in fact make the trip, and that we do in fact fill Parc Regional Val D'Irene's infamous barn.

Visit www.val-direne.com for more information about this great spot that actually let us book every room they have.

We look forward to hearing from you SOON. We will all be in and around Halifax in the coming weeks to answer any questions you may have, or to accept deposits from returning ski epicers and the super keeners out there. Or just write to skiepic2006@gmail.com and we'll get back to you ASAP.

On a scale from one to ten, we're wicked awesome.

As for the age restrictions... we do not want any little groms on this trip for very understandable reasons. The idea is to keep everyone 19+. At least affiliated with a university of some sort. You dig?

Have you ever organized a trip like this? If you read carefully, we're trying to cover our asses by saying 19+. That said, obviously we don't want kids from grade 12 that are only 18. Therefor the mention for

'university affiliation of some sort'. This suggests some level of maturity and responsability... but not too much. It's pretty loosely stated, interpret it how you'd like. We are well aware the minimum age for drinking in Quebec is 18. Oh wait, are you 18 and in grade 12?

I think Jeremy's point is we don't want to be -nor do we want anyone else to be liable when someone's parents decide to point fingers because their high school son or daughter couldn't handle themselves and wound up in the hospital.

If you are responsible enough to fend for yourself, and enjoy 3 days of hard skiing and partying, then we'll see you at the bus stop January 5th. Cool?

oh, and clever martock_freeskier, but I think we'll keep the trip name SKI EPIC. If you'd rather spend that weekend skiing marginal man made snow at martock, be my guest... we won't miss you.

Did I mention 100% of the snow at Amqui is eau-naturale? That same time in January it was already over my waist?

Sounds cool, I heard this was a crazy good time last year....if I wasn't back in town a week before i'd hit it up for sure

I'm pretty sure we said 'no exuses'.

If you're just coming back from a ski trip or something, why not celebrate with another, much better, more french-filled one?

If you're just coming back from a Christmas holiday in the sun with the family, then this should be the first thing you do when you do come back.

Well, it's a good enough excuse for me not being home for four months....plus being in Labrador lets me ski in November so it's not that big of a deal......but it would be fun......see y'all at Christmas

space is filling up fast! took 15 more deposits today.

sushi: email skiepic2006@gmail.com and put "attn: Melissa" in the subject line, she goes to SMU and is reppin the trip on that side of town!

Hey man, I know Melissa, I met her last week. I'm just getting my people together and then we'll get you guys the deposits.

i think i talked to someone about it last year, i just remember that the last day at martock someone was telling a few of us that their boyfriend organized a huge ski trip every january, i'm guessing that she meant this one?

shit i was in hali on the weekend, i think im going on a trip to quebec thats from pei in dec and i would like to go visit friends down in bc so i will think about it

Amqui already has 1'6" down! space is starting to fill up!

We will be @ the movie night @ A1 for the whiteshine tour for anyone that wants to throw down their deposits!

rock on,

Zach

bus #1 is full, wh000t

this trip is going to put all other's to sleep.

...and did I mention that girls outnumber guys 2-1 right now? on second thought, don't come, I like those numbers...

are you guys coming? i guess you'll never know if you don't... but really, filling an entire hotel with your friends at the base of a hill is a pretty awesome time!

'this guy' knows exactly what has happened in the past on ski trips... you and a bunch of guys packed into your moms van, drove to Mont Ste. Anne, ate a lot of Kraft Dinner, drank a quart of vodka, then slept in a bed with another dude. You probably stole some signs, jump off some roofs, your car broke down, and paid a visit to the hospital too?

This trip is like Cancun Spring Break but -20. I've been all over the place with different kinds of trips and nothing has come close to this... including the feeling of going up the gondola in Saas Fee Switzerland on no sleep, in August. Or even celebrating my birthday in Chamonix France with Glen Plake, his wife, Scott Markewitz, Stian Hagen, Kent Kreitler, and the TGR crew, for that matter.

See you on the bus.

OK.....i just wrote a shitload in response to this before my computer screwed up so here's a summary of why my group of friends is less liekly to go on this trip...

1) Canada Games Team has many trips planned all over the place........

2) an EPIC trip to an undisclosed location with snowmobiles and cats is in the works.....

3) Many memebers are wanted fugitives in Quebec are charges stemming from earlier trips.....

4) Other trips in the works are smaller, more varied, and allow us to do whatever else we want with our own/or 'moms' vehicle....

5) A group of 5 hard-core skiers ripping for a week is better then sharing the hill/park with 80 people spending daddies money from Ontario who get out on the hill twice a year.....although the girls would be a definite bonus I cant argue that.....

Point is, my close group of friends are pretty focused on what they want and where they go...in such a limited season you have to pick and choose your trips......this audience, at least my friends, have the winter pretty much planned allready........it will be a great trip no doubt, twice as many girls is a def bonus aswell..........I'm sure this trip will fill up, I've heard good things about it...anyway enough shit, this forum is too good for that...

So was Johnny hanging with them and you hanging with Johnny as a tag-along or did Plake jump out of your Birthday cake?

j/k...anyway...you guys better hope you get some cold weather soon so the hills can get rollin'

Take it easy....see you all in four weeks

cool, I can totally understand people wanting to do their own thing. That was mostly well written 'east' although this is the maritimes, which is where I and most people going on this trip are from, not sure where you got that Ontario garbage... and really, your worse than them talking like that anyway.

and 'flair', aren't you to old to be arguing on the internet? I don't think we've met, so I'm impressed that you know what I have accomplished and been a part of.

Contrary to what some believe, but all skiers are people, and most will talk to you and hang out with you if your not a dick -regardless of who you know or are related to. In fact, the most cocky and ignorant skiers seem to be the nobody-park-rat, surpasing even super rich mediocre racers. ask me how I know.

Anyway, its pretty clear a few of you don't want to come, however you have also made it clear why their is less of a community here than in other areas of the country. And it has nothing to do with snow, terrain, or population. It has to do with the attitude that if your not interested in something, or if its not your style, you will more readily diss it and discourage then move on or pass it on to someone who you think would be interested.

oh and not to worried about weather *yet* that area has a pretty good track record for early season snow. but Im sure we could all use a prayer.

Anyway, I obviously was not dissing your trip if you fully understood my post, It was an explanation.....and yes, this is the maritimes, thanks for reminding me where I live.....and........everyone I know that is signed up on the trip is from Ontario, attending Dal/Smu, living off daddies money......and they know that...no disrespect to Ontario...and the weather I was reffering to was Nova Scotia.......relax!

Who are the cocky ones in this conversation? Don't make me quote the last paragraph a few posts above this.....

As I said before, have a good trip........leave it

How can you possibly say there is not much of a community here? Per capita this place is doing awesome....I can't beleive you said that.......lighten up and hang out more you might see more of the community......

see "902onsnow" when it drops.....you'll be wondering what you were doing when the 'community' was having killer seasons.....

too old? are you fucking kidding me? i'm only 18.

but seriously, you gotta stop acting like you're making this scene happen in ns, you haven't done shit besides being jonny's brother, face it, that's your claim to fame. the people that made this scene what it is are people like emberly, jensen, thor and that group of guys. They pushed the young crowd of skiers and gave everyone amazing opportunities to do things they never thought they could do. and while you're here calling yourself JLaw and acting like you're king shit in the scene, these guys who have done everything and made it happen are super humble and never even care about people giving them props. all and all, i'll see you on the hill, and you can say to me whatever you want.

sorry about that zach, i seemed to get you and jeremy mixed up a little bit, but you both seem to be on the same page and i really don't think that you guys should place yourselves so highly in this scene that you didn't even build.

i'm not saying that i did anything, i'm just lucky enough to be considered a part of it, and if you guys want to be a part of it, take yourselves down a peg.

and one last thing, with all your guys' talk about people being too young for trips and stuff like that, you really should consider that the best two skiers in my mind right now are both underage, foster verge and jon wilson are destroying shit in the scene and they can probably hold themselves down on a night better than you

I haven't claimed to build anything, you take about being humble, yet have done nothing in this thread but put us down.

Legal age had nothing to do with quality of skiing, but was a matter of liability. And its nothing personal, hopefully you can appreciate that I didn't want to have 110 15/16 year olds on the trip.

and shaun, as it seems we are on a first name basis now, perhaps we have met before? but you continue to impress me with your knowledge of what I am capable of.

Why can't everyone feed off what each other are doing? When is this movie 902snow dropping? I'd love to see it. are you guys coming to the tangerine dream teaser? I can't speak for Jeremy, but I think he speaks so passionatly about it because he has poured a TON of time into trying to make it a success, which of course isn't possible without the support of everyone here.

anyway, I don't think anything positive is going to come of this thread, but if you want to talk about any of this further, or anything drop me an email at the above address.

Cool, that sounds like it sums it up. I'd be at the premiere if I was in town for sure, and I'm sure there will be good attendance like the premieres last year.

Point is nobody runs the show in the east. There is no question of the talent in NS or NB, the younger guys are domintating the scene now and will for a while. THEY are repping NS in the Canada Games, thats the biggest thing to happen to this scene for a long time.

I respect JLaw for the work put in to the movie scene, and for Danny Boy who really started the movie scene here in the east. It's great to have a couple guys putting early season time into this kind of stuff.

As long as you're not N. Trites, anybody's part of this scene........

Anyway, I really hope this will be the last post in this forum cause I think we all have embarrassed ourselves enough....

Peace.

okay... the Trites comment was hilarious.

I'd like to respond a bit to what has been going on while I've been running around the city getting things together for the 3rd.

I'll agree with East about how the comments posted took on a rather hostile tone, and aren't necessary. The later messages were constructive and respectful. Don't think that I am trying to get the last word in.. it's been a couple of days since I visited and I can say that I wasn't expecting this.

Let me address the 'name dropping' comment. If you celebrated your birthday with Glen Plake and those cats, you'd be sure to tell the Newschoolers group as they would be excited about it, regardless of age. I was making an analogy you would appreciate. The ski trip we are going on is as good as the feeling that I got on a night like this.. simple as that. Besides, you'd be happy to hear, these guys were so stoked on hearing I was from Nova Scotia and were very curious about the scene out here. And so you know, I was in Chamonix France and met these guys on my own, at a TGR party. They didn't care less about Jonny (better known around here as Jonathan) and were curious and interested in a bunch of Maritimers livin it up in the Alps.

Regarding the comments that suggest we (I) think we're creating the scene. Not for one second do I think I'm creating anything. I simply want to use the resources available to me, and the contacts that I have recently made to create more energy and hype for everything snowsport. So far, I'm working at Ski Wentworth, collaborating with Q104, in talks with SKIER, and meeting all reps, hill management, shop owners and staff, media personel, etc. To increase the exposure for the scene that already exists, will mean more skiers and riders wanting better parks, events, etc. I know very well that guys like Jeff, Thor, John, etc. are the shit and have been dedicated to this cause for a long time. I'm excited to be a part of their ongoing efforts. I've talked with them about this season, and we all are excited to work together. I've seen Foster and Wilson ski. They kill it. I know I couldn't do a lot of the things they pull off.

Flair: Lets talk about Jonny Law and the suggestion that I haven't done shit and that being his brother is my only claim to fame. First off, that's pretty rude of you to say to someone you don't know. I'm proud and happy to be Jonny Law's brother and what he's

accomplished. I get excited about the things he does, and like to relay his stories on to people like you who might be interested. This isn't a crime.

As for not having done shit, that's pretty low. Have you read my posts about my event? The people I've got involved in this and the stuff that's going to go down would suggest otherwise. Know now that I haven't once, in all these years, depended on my brother for anything ski related besides wicked schwag. I even beat him in his last race in NS. Not one call or email has been made by him on my behalf. Last winter alone I skied the back of Mont Fort in Verbier, skied the Pas de Chevre and the Mer de Glace in Chamonix, and skied the glacier in Saas Fee Switzerland this summer. I've run 3 marathons since last December (4th to come in December), have raised $11 000 for the Arthritis Society in one year, and have many new people, groups, and businesses excited about skiing already this year. Events are in the works that you'll be happy to be apart of. I've organized SKI EPIC trips for 3 years and have given many people opportunities to ski who wouldn't otherwise have it. Oh, and when we meet, you might notice that some people call me JLaw, and have for 5 years.

the Tangerine Dream Halifax is the only event of its size for the preseason which is for families, university kids, and anyone else who wants to get together with fellow skiers and riders for a great time in Halifax. Alpine Nova Scotia will be there along with the new Ski & Snowboard Societies at DAL & SMU fundraising for their causes. It's too bad the freestyle crew has to miss it for your trip to Quebec. It would've been great to have you be apart of it and represent your crew. But then again, I'd probably miss it too if I could go skiing...

Don't miss the Red Bull rail jam behind Gorsebrook Jr. High earlier on in the day. In fact, we might need all your help to pull it off. Winner to be announced in front of over 500 people at the Tangerine Dream film premiere/ski expo.

This is all I wanted to say in response to the latest craziness. I regret if this email sounds boastful or conceited. It's just fair to respond to claims such as the ones above with facts that would suggest otherwise.

Any comments, email me at ecskiing@gmail.com.

lets just chill out and ski like crazy french people this year, i agree a bit with shaun and with ferg you do seem to be holding yourself up high, but the real ballas of the scene are jenson and emberly and thor they taught me how to ski and presented me with so many great opportunities and jenen alone is pushing the scene around here more then anyone. its cool and all that you organized a movie premier but without guys like jenson who would come to watch?

I'll say this. Originally, I thought that this was THE event of the preseason. I was wrong. I am promoting it as such in order to capture the attention of the greater population, not the guys who hang out on Newschoolers. They knew about this along time ago. My intention was, and is, to get everyone together, young and old out for the event. I know that everyone on this site, even those more critical of my actions, are helping me promote this party and for that I am obviously very thankful.

Now lets destroy this thread and never speak of it again. I'm actually happy to know (and you'll say that I would've known if I was a part of it) that such a passionate group exists. I look forward to meeting you.

whats the red bull rail jam? is it on the black three kink thing down the street from gorsbrook, or just the rails behind the school, and when is it
