Ski culture project help

hey ns, I am doing a project for school and I need some secondary sources for the project relating to the culture/history of skiing/slopestyle skiing. If you guys could share some ideas to help out that would be great.

copy and past newchoolers threads onto a powerpoint and explain how 20 years of bullshitting on ski forums degrades ones brain cells

Wrote an ethnography paper on skiing and used threads from this site as some of my sources. I found threads about peoples opinions of changing ski designs and trick name origins the most useful. Try going to ski gabber page 2000-3440 to see what skiers were talking about back in the day. Idk if you're looking for the origin of newschool skiing, comp skiing or freestyle itself and how it came from hotdogging but this site is a great resource for anything 2004-now. If you wanna see hotdogging from the beginning look up Wayne Wong.

When covid hit, the libraries responded by making a national online "Chat with a librarian" service. You can find a link to it on most library homepages (like at your school or community library).

If you can't find one, use Oregon's at answerland.org . They don't care if you're not from Oregon, and you don't need a library card or anything.

Tell them the name of your class and that you're looking for scholarly sources on ski culture, and those people will get you the goods.

If you send a link to your college's library web page, they have a master login that allows them to dig through the online resources and even check out the books for you so you just pick them up.

It's far superior to Google scholar.

These have some good background. The first part of the docs have some good history before focusing on the skiers. The last is more contemporary.

And in general, don't be shy to drop in and talk to your local reference librarian.

If you tell them exactly what you're looking for, they can get it for you.

Even if it's a journal article, theyll still be happy to sit down at the computer and help you navigate.

Find the info you actually want and tell the story you actually want to tell. Don't just settle for whatever's the least crappy crap that Google Scholar or Wikipedia 'References' section drags through the door.

Tanner Halls documentary "Like a Lion" talks a lot about the early culture of free skiing

When skiing met hip hop is pretty cool but they kind of just missed the mogul scene completely. Yadda yadda yadda JLev invented the twin tip and here you go. No way, Moseley at Nagano was the most iconic display of Newschool that anyone had ever seen. Then you have Auclair, Douglas, Cusson, Dorian etc getting Salomon to make the first 1080 overnight Salomon had like a third of the best park skiers on the planet they were dominating everyone in terms of progression.

I think you should find the history of a part of skiing. Slope, Mogul, Racer, etc... I can help with mogul just because it's very big here in montana don't quote me but i'm pretty sure it started somewhere close to here. But long story short theres lots of films like Mavericks (The new pbs doc), Legends of Yellowstone, or any other local bridger film could be beneficial. That older T Hall doc would be awesome for origins of freestyle too.

So I am actually focusing more on slope style culture, but I also skied moguls at one point so theres that, I was also thinking about incorporating some history of mogul skiing because it goes under kind of the same category with freestyle

How are you defining slope style culture? Like purely competition scene? Idk that’s kind of a weird thing to write a paper about.
