Ski Bumming

thats funny skiierman, i was talking to my boss about that today, he did it for four years in mammoth, said it was worth it...he said he worked alot, but it was a ton of fun and busses took you everywhere you needed to go from the mountain. I believe he said they took your rent right out of your pay check there too because so many people do it! I think im gunna do that after college for a year or two! I think that would be sweet!

PS everyone skiierman makes legit threads! see!!!

my parents dont mind me saying that i want to just ski bum. they think its a good idea cause why go to college and waste money if you are just gonna fuck up.

haha both my parents were ski bums at alta. my mom for seven years, and my dad for like two. so they basically encourage it. except my parents want me to do it after college, because my mom did it before college and she ended up taking a lot longer to get through college because she didn't remember shit.

but that's so cool, parents can be cool sometimes.

I just had my first year as a ski bum and this winter I'm taking my second, my parents don't mind as long as I have a plan for what I'm going to do later... I just tell them that I'm going to the university next year, but I don't know if I am...I hate planning my future!

I took my ski bum'n during college, first I had two years in Iowa, Not a lot of skiing. Then transfered to WSC in Gunnison, that first year "in School" I skied about 85 days, I didn't do that great with my grades. so then I took a year off to "get my in-state residency" and moved up to Crested Butte, lived across the street from the lift and worked for the mtn. I worked "Clean Team", it was scheduled so we could ski 6 hours/day, awesome! I always told my parents I would graduate and they couldn't really be made since my dad taught me to ski when he was an instructor at Paoli Peaks in Indiana. So I went back for a semester and changed my major Bus/Rec with an emphisis in ski and resort mang. at Western. I took that next winter off and started the program of only going to school in the fall and summer and taking all the winters off. It worked and I graduated. Now I have the best job in the world. I own a ski shop. I love what I do.

the first ski bum season is a magical thing. especially when that huge storm hits and you realize this is your life.
